The very best Nvidia GPU he can put in his pc is a GTX Titan. However, this isn't going to help him at all. There's honestly not much point in getting more than a GT 640 for that old platform.

To be honest with you, it would be a waste of time to try to upgrade a video card that is on AGP, honestly there is no really good AGP cards on the market today, unless you go searching ebay, then you have the problem of having any card that is a AGP HD3850 or above/Nvidia equal counter part, bottlenecking the Pentium 4 CPU. Really the system is to old to upgrade, I think he should start thinking about retiring the Dell 2400 and just build a budget APU system for under $300, he would get more performance out of a budget APU rig then he will ever get back out of the Dell 2400.

Dude no offense, but what are you smoking bro ;) , it must be some good stuff lol, back when the Dell 2400 PC came out, they did not have PCI-E back then, the GPU's were on AGP slots, so no a Nvidia GTX Titan will not work in the AGP slot, nor will it fit in the Dell 2400 case for that matter.

Yeah.. there really isn't much of a point in bothering with it. The best GPU you would be able to find would still perform terribly in any game that has came out within the last 6-7 years. Just tell him to save up his money to build a PC.
