RAM selection

Hey guys, I need help picking some 16 gb ram (doesnt really matter in what form {1x16, 2x8})

Whats some good ram? If you couldn't tell this is my first build. I am looking for something under $70

I prefer performance way over aesthetics, but some RGB would be nice.

does cl15 and cl16 make a difference @Jurrunio

By that I meant which cpu/ motherboard.  Different CPUs prefer different types and speeds of memory.

To a degree.  The higher the MHz the faster the memory, but also the lower the cas the faster the memory.

Cool, thanks   intel isnt nearly as picky about ram as modern AMD is, so that makes things simpler.  If it was AMD you’d need very high speed low cas ram.  You don’t though.

 

You have 4 memory slots on that board.  This card will take very fast memory but doesn’t actually need it.

my memory (which may not be accurate) is that you get best results by filling slots 2 at a time, which would imply you want 2x8.  It has to do partially with the way the memory trace is arranged on the motherboard and it’s possible it doesn’t matter.  I can’t seem to find information on that.

 

As to what to buy, you want 288 pin ddr4 of at least as fast as the minimum speed allowed by your mobo (couldn’t find out what that is) and +4000mhz(?) ram which is likely to be very expensive.  There will be a list somewhere, likely on the manufacturer’s website, of which brands and models of memory have been previously tested by them on that board.  It’s usually pretty long.  You gain advantages from using one of those types, but it is not a hard and fast requirement that you do so.

 

 @Jurrunio’s recommendation may be a good price/performance sweet spot. PCPP is pcpartpicker. It normally can search prices but the Black Friday sales have removed pricing from it for the US site.  The ones outside of the US still seem to be working.  You’re going to have to dig around on the various websites looking for a deal or find a shopping spider app that can keep up.  I personally haven’t found one.

lower timings is faster, but not a noticeable one for this little change
