I currently have a computer I am selling because it is overkill for what I do with it. If your curious it has these specs:

Ryzen 7 2700x

x470 Motherboard

32GB of DDR4 RAM rated and running at 3000.

250GB MX500 SSD

8GB RX580

Prices seem good for computer hardware right now, but that wont always be the case, so I am thinking about just building a different PC that is powerful enough for what I plan to use it for without reaching too deep into my pockets.

The most demanding game I play is Fallout 4 (unmodded and no add ons) at 1440p set to ultra. Otherwise I think the next most demanding game I play is Skyrim. I do not play any other triple A games; I mostly play indie games. I want a system that can play those 2 games at 1440p at or above 45fps while streaming them at 1080p at 30fps or better.

I also read that for streaming, 6 cores on a processor is recommended, 8 cores is better, but would that be the case for either of those games, or should I be able to comfortably hit my goals with a 6 core processor such as the Ryzen 5 2600?

Here is what I am considering:

Ryzen 7 2700

B450 Motherboard

16GB RAM at 3000

1TB Crucial P1 SSD

RX 580 8GB

The next most demanding game I will likely play on this PC /might/ be the next Elderscrolls game, which looks like it will not come out for at least a few more years, so I m not worried about "future proofing" it.

Any suggestions one way or another, such as "RX 590 is a bit overkill", because that would save me money. Thanks in advanced.

------------------

I already have a buyer for my current system for $1000, I already have the SSD and another case for my new build. Doing research on Ebay, I have found that I can purchase everything else for about $500.

Why are you selling a PC with a faster CPU and more RAM and then buying a new PC with a slightly slower CPU, half the RAM, and a slightly faster GPU?

This makes zero sense. Just stick with what you have.

Because it is likely overkill for what I use it for and if I sell it and build a system that is better tailored for my needs, I make a profit in the end.

You will lose money selling your old gear and buying new and inferior gear.

If anything -- sell part of that RAM kit if it's a 4 dimm kit.  If it's 2 dimm kit then sell the entire kit and buy another.  Though that's also not ideal.

You won't profit.  Look up the items you have now on eBay and you'll see that used items are usually selling for less than what you'd pay new.

No you do not make a profit in the end lmao. You lose money, time, and if your local classified buyers are anything like mine, you lose your sanity.

Don't. Just don't. Stick with what you have. You want to "downgrade" but you're doing a sidegrade.

Doesn't worth it at all,You will lose money with the result of an inferior system

and the RX 590 is just an overclocked RX 580.

Well if you've found a sucker then you're golden, but double-check that you can buy EVERYTHING again for a new system without being unhappy with the result.  I'm talking fans, cables, Windows license, etc.

If you only make a few dollars off of that sucker and end up with an inferior system then I don't think you're gonna be happy with the hassle of it all.

Fair point, but I am more interested in knowing if this what I am planing will be up to the task I am aiming for. Also I have taken your and another commentator's advice on the RX590, so I will change my post to reflect that; thank you.

also if you are gaming alot, i believe the resale value of a ryzen 2700 and a ryzen 3600 is around the same price. the ryzen 3600 will perform better in games.

Oh believe me, I got more than enough parts lying around where I don't need to worry about cables, fans, ect. With my estimate, I am looking to make $400 to $500. Also, while it is inferior in hardware for the most part, I want to know, with my usage, would I notice a difference when playing and streaming? I am one of those people that does not really notice much of a difference after I hit 45fps.

The total would be about $450. Now with your suggestions, it does raise another question. Would a 6 core processor do what I am aiming for, or should I stick with an 8 core?

You have to consider, 4-5 years from now you'll most likely have a woefully underpowered system whereas if you keep your current PC, it may still be adequate. Doesn't make much sense, especially since you're going to lose money selling it and buying new lesser components.

Streaming Skyrim and Fallout 4 is a piece of cake for the Ryzen 5 3600,

But for a more demanding games 8 cores will make a difference.

The 3600 performs better in gaming than the 2700 though.
