So for starters I don't have the first idea on amd cpu's and motherboards as this computer isnt for me (but I was asked if I could help build it).

So I want to know if this motherboard (which was made for 2nd gen ryzens) will work with the 3600 (i believe),

If it does work, what will I have to do to get it to work (I'm Guessing a bios update, which I'm not 100% sure on how to do and if I can update it with a 3rd gen ryzen inside)

What motherboard ?

Other than that, if you already have a 2nd gen AMD in it, you just need to update the bios so you can use a 3rd gen.

i was looking at this website

image.thumb.png.7abf56bc277bb1c26e07ee3a38b1ca69.png

which only says 2000 series, there would be early stock (i dont know many people in australia with 2nd gen ryzen motherboards) that would not have the bios updated yet so if it arrives there could be a chance of it not having the right bios on it right?

also does AMD still do that upgrade thing (think it was called a boot kit) for people to update the bios and send the cpu back to them?

doesnt have clear marking that its Bios has been updated, so unless its late stock, its unlikely to be working out of the box.

and it doesnt have Q-flash+  to update the Bios.

that was my concern as some websites say support up to 2nd gen and others say 3rd

if you are refering to the boot kit thing, i thought they sent you like an Athlon to use to update the bios and then send back to them

You can often get the shop to update it for you for free.

if the parts were ordered online do you think that a local shop would do it for a small fee?

depends on the stre, but probably,

would just look at the many better board that do have the Bios updated that i posted above.

Yeap that's one of the problems with AMD Ryzen builds,  they don't even tell you if the parts are  compatible.

I've seen this multiple times,  one site tells you "RYZEN 3000 READY" while other sites will tell you "1st and 2nd gen Ryzen"...

Honestly I'd call the manufacturer at this point and ask to clear up the confusion.

it wouldnt be the manufacturer as they would ask for the unique motherboard id and then tell you if it left with the newest bios, and from what i understand it would be easier at that point to just plug it in with the 3rd gen and see if it works and if it doesnt then you know it if it does or does not

if it has the sticker on the box, then its actually ready.

the manufacturer having it on their website means nothing as its a Bios thing.

No, I think you should call the manufacturer and ask.

Well, if it has this sticker then I honestly don't understand the purpose of this thread - I suppose it doesn't have the sticker and yes it's very likely they need a bios update then. At which point I'd ask why not get an actually fully compatible out of the box motherboard instead.

as this motherboard came out before and after the release of the bios (i think its like T40 that supports 3rd gen) they would need to know the specific board so they could narrow down when it was released from them to determine if it had the new bios, meaning they would need the ID that would be on the motherboard somewhere which is a tad hard to get when it isnt here yet, same as calling the retailer as it left there already and they would not remember everything about the box

I ordered mine online but i phoned them up and asked them to do it.

Im not sure about a local shop, some boards require a 2000 series cpu to be inserted however some just have a button so it also depends on your board.
