3,5k Workstation

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

Hmm, how about 32gb of ram (guess it would be nice for caching) and full 2tb of ssd like 840 evo (and mby a backup hdd)?

I don't see the point of getting a 2TB ssd with current prices unless you're just trying to use up your budget. Storage is totally a matter of preference. Get as much or as little as you'd like.

16GB ram is already plenty and unless you're already using 16GB and find it inadequate, I don't see the point to jump to 32GB. If you get 16GB, you can always add more afterwards if it's actually needed.

OK, I`m building a new PC, mainly use will be in cad software such as catia and adobe ps. Budget is arrount 3,5k $ Already got 4k display, so it should be able to run on it smoothly. Dont have any experience in workstation builds, other rig is for gaming only, so i really need help on this one! Suggestions?

I know i risk to sound stupid, but whats the benefit of those quadro cards over the regural ones? I`ve been doing my work on regural ones so far, so dont really know much about that?

And, I was thinging going all ssd. Even if it hits 4k$ i could pull it out...

@shomy993, If you want to work with 10-bit color a workstation card like the Quadro is required. Also most cad software either requires or works better with workstation gpu as opposed to consumer cards like Geforce. These cards work at a higher precision and are optimized for design and rendering tasks. They also tend to built with higher quality parts. Information on the Quadro card I included can be found at http://www3.pny.com/NVIDIA-Quadro-K4000-font-colordc0431Newfont-P3275C365.aspx.

I'm in favor of all SSD if the budget permits.

depending on how heavy youre going to use it, 32GB might be needed. 16GB already is the minimum for a workstation grade machine

Okay, thanks for the answer! :)

Oh, and, could quadro cards work in sli? If they can, i was thinking of mby going 2-way k4000...

No on SLI. However many programs that support them are able to make use of multiple cards when using gpu acceleration. According to the Adobe FAQ, using more than one gpu does not enhance Photoshop performance.

No particular ones.. Yes, 3500 euros... Can go to 4k or more if needed, but i think that nice pc can be built with 3,5k?

3500 is more than enough.

So there are no specific shops you can link us to?

Nope, no specific ones, any shop you link is fine :)

For one, I don't really know of any good shops for serbia. It would help if you could link us to certain shops that are available to you and that you are comfortable with.

I`m from Serbia, but I actually study and and live most of my time in Austria, so any shops that are functional in Europe are okay :)

For ones, I know http://alternate.de is popular in europe... And, there is http://amazon.de for most of the stuff :)

1. What exactly do you mean by workstation? What will the pc be used for in these work applications? 3D modeling?

Alright. What kind of projects are you working on? Is a copy of Windows or any peripherals needed?

I`ll be making 3D models of buildings or building complexes in 3DS, models of industrial parts in Catia and rendering all that. Will be working on 4k display (already got it). As I`m usually short on time for all this stuff, speed is crucial in this case, and therefore I`m spending a bit more that what might be considered necessary, and 4000 (usd or eur, all the same) is top point. All software and peripherals are already owned.
