Hi ... Im running PopOs 19.10 with Steam & Lutirs.   Ive only been using this OS for the 1st time for about 4 months, coming from WIn 7.  I had Issues with some steam games but have now resolved them and have a 95% working steam library.  For the last 5% Ive now moved to Lutirs as people suggest that it will run the games I cannot inside steam.

As Far as I know, I have installed WINE 32bit & 64bit, I installed Play on linux & Wine tricks too just in case.  I installed the latest Lutirs prog from this site using the terminal   https://lutris.net/downloads

I then Installed D9VK & DXVK following instructions from this site https://github.com/Joshua-Ashton/d9vk    &    https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases.

I placed these files in my      .local/share/lutris/runtime/(D9V9/DXVK) folders as instructed from another site ( cant remember the link ?)

But 3 things are confusing the hell outta me atm ?

1 - When I load Lutris, its will scan my drive(s), find my installed steam games and add the Icons to Lutirs, after setting the configuration  ... If i try to run it ... it always want to re-download another copy to install it again before I can play ?  I dont understand why after if finds the steam games I already have installed on my HD why it cannot run them via this client without another separate install? I understand that Lutris allows many ways to play the game via the runners (steam/wine/wine-steam/native) but I cannot understand why it finds installed games but then wont use them ?

2 - I Cannot get Lutirs to save D9VK or DXVK when I switch the button to use them .... every time I hit save and go back to see if it has stayed "on" ... it hasnt ? I cannot get the bloody button to stay "on" at all ?

I have tried removing d9vk & dxvk via the package manager & re-installing them .... uninstalling and re-installing Lutirs & d9vk/dxvk via the github, re-installing WINE & following a load of setup guides on utube/web but It wont stay "on" ☹️

3 - I dont fully understand what the WINE "bottle" prefix is all about in the configuration.  My understanding is that it is where WINE has created its virtual C:\ drive so I have pointed it to the ".Wine" directory that was created by default on my Home "area" ☺️ when I installed WINE .... Is this correct?

Anyone understand where Im more than likely going wrong ? & care to help ?

This may be a permissions issue. Check and see who is allowed to access the drive/directory (read, write, and execute) and change it accordingly.

Here's a little intro to linux permissions using the terminal by DigitalOcean: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/an-introduction-to-linux-permissions

Note: You can also edit permissions using the gui in most file managers.

I don't know much about this since I don't use Lutris that much, it may be a bug in your build of Lutris.

Yes. When wine is first run, it'll create a prefix, a "C: drive" in ~/.wine/ named "drive_c" along with other files for your windows program to use (like the windows registry). Everything wine does is done in the prefix directory unless you tell it to go outside its prefix.

Note: you can specify the wine prefix with an environment variable, meaning you can put the prefix anywhere. Lutris will allow you to choose the prefix directory for every game in the configuration, but will default to ~/.wine/ if you leave it be.

With the DXVK issues, atm I remove my programs via the pop shop or package manager, how can I be sure that all the files have been deleted before I re-install another & does anyone know another link where I can download Lutris from cos Im using the repo link from the actual site ☹️

Use: sudo apt purge

and remove your wine prefix.

For lutris: https://lutris.net/downloads/
