Hi, i just recently upgraded internet to to 200mbps down/up. And to avoid cable clutter i decided to use a powerline adapter to get internet to the room where i have my pc. I get around 80mbps up/down and when i did a test to check the link between the adapters i got somewhere around 200mbps up/down. So i decided to check on the router settings and i saw that the port speed was set at 100mbps. Is it possible to change that? And if it can be changed how do you do it?

The router im using (wich was provided by my isp) is: Technicolor TG799vacXTREAM

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

No, ethernet operates at 10Mbps/100Mbps/1000Mbps (there are other speeds but let's stick to common stuff for a home)

You can't just "upgrade" a port to 200Mbps or something, you'll need a powerline kit that has  1000Mbps(1.0Gbps) ports already on it.

Your kit only has 1*10/100Mbps Ethernet Port so you'll need to buy a new kit.

Pretty much, sadly. It will do "200Mbps" in that it will send and receive 100Mbps both ways which adds up to 200Mbps but that's about it and it's pretty scummy.

The terms “AV500” and “500Mbps” are derived from applicable specifications and refer to the theoretical maximum physical-layer data transfer rate. Those terms are used on this product solely to indicate its compatibility with other “AV500” or “500Mbps” PowerLine devices. Actual data speeds vary and are limited by the product’s Ethernet port and other network conditions such as data traffic, electrical noise, and wiring issues. If you are uncertain about your network conditions, you should consult an IT professional to assist in selecting a networking product. Interface Available: 1 x 10/100Mbps Ethernet Port; Protocols Supported: HomePlug AV IEEE802.3 IEEE802.3u; System Requirement: Windows 10/8.1/8/7/Vista/XP/2000 Mac Linux

Thats the prodcut description on Amazon. When it comes to power line adapters what I have noticed is they provide a speed listing and thats normally the speed between adatpers. You have to be careful and check for the Ethernet port speeds. Power line adatpers are not the only thing that has this issue. Routers as well. Many even to this day have 100 Mbps ports. OR have Gigabit Ethernet but cant handle a Gigabit Internet connection.

This is why it pays to do a shit load of reserach. ALSO power line adapters are like WiFi, they generally dont live up to expectations.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

That is a combination of dishonest marketing and someone who didn't know what he was talking about. As stated, marketers will take the 100 up and 100 down and say it equals 200. Then you have a clueless sales person reading the number 200 on the box and saying it will work. Not exactly a scam, just ignorance of the sales person's part. Return it if you can. 100 is totally unacceptable in 2019.

Honestly, I would use WiFi over powerline these days. Powerline was nice when it first came out because it outperformed WiFI, but it hasn't kept up at all. A good 802.11ac router will run circles around powerline.
