why is my CPU running at 100%

Shoota

i'm having trouble getting my cpu to not run at 100% because some background processes keep taking up some usage.  I don't have the best cpu, i5 4460 at 3.2Ghz but i feel like it shouldn't be running at 100% when i'm just playing one game and nothing else is open except task manager and msi afterburner.  I did notice a program called WMI Provider Host that is taking up about 10% of cpu usage.  i think this is a system process but not that familiar with system processes.

You're running an older chip and modern games are becoming increasingly taxing with multi-threaded workloads. I'm not surprised you're seeing 100 percent load in games. Make sure Windows and drivers are up to date. What is WMI Provider Host using when your system is idle?

yeah this helped.  i think restarting the program helped a little.  although my cpu still spikes to 100% sometime while playing destiny 2, which isnt a very demanding game i dont think.

No, what does task manager say WMI Provider Host is using in resources? What is your CPU load (percentage value) while idling.
