Youtube COPPA Adpocalypse

Hello, I was watching a youtube video on the EEvblog2 channel today about this new development in the youtube creator space involving the COPPA law. He made the video in relation to this Youtube Support page ( https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9383587 ) about upcoming changes to the youtube video publishing system and channel accountability for disclosure of content that is made for or could be seen as targeted at kids. "You will be required to tell us if your content is made for kids". I was wondering what thoughts people on the forum are in relation to how youtube is handling there compliance after they recently got fined millions of dollars for non compliance and how this might affect channels like LTT which is targeted at all ages and demographics. I personally think that that youtube is going to have a very difficult time coming, youtube is requiring all creators to take on the responsibility for compliance with COPPA, (https://www.ftc.gov/tips-advice/business-center/guidance/complying-coppa-frequently-asked-questions) and they have already in the past blocked all comments and reduced ads on videos directed at children. I only see them extending there already restrictive rules on child directed content to most videos on the platform to avoid liability in the future.

 

Again, I'd like to hear what people have to say on the topic, and I look forward to reading replies.

 

PS: COPPA compliance penalties are "operators who violate the Rule liable for civil penalties of up to $42,530 per violation".

There is still porn all over Youtube so whatever they are doing isn't working. Also when I say porn I don't mean a video with 1 view that was posted 2 minutes ago. I am talking videos with 61 million views showing full frontal nudity and sexual acts. We need a Youtube 2.0

I don't think this will affect LTT as officially they're sort of targeting 13+ afaik.  The "kids" designation on youtube causes a ton of extra restrictions on comments, content, etc. which would be quite harmful for them and not useful in any way.

I see that they might be targeting children 13+ but my concern lies with what youtube's algorithm and what it will select as for kids. "In addition, we'll use machine learning to help us identify videos that clearly target young audiences."

YouTube is starting to see what Television channels see where advertisers run the show. You want to make that YouTube money then you have to follow the rules. Most big YouTubers are no longer making videos for fun and see it as a great way to make alot of money and care very little about their audience. They will cry hollow tears because they were able to do what they want and get advertiser money. Now that YouTube is so large it can have an impact on developing kids advertisers and Google are going to start coming down hard. YouTubers who are here to make money will adapt and stop complaining once its normalized. The people who this is affecting most are channels where they target young kids but want to keep up the appearance of a jackass star where they try to not be accountable for anything. 

 

Note this is not everyone and some channel have some standards. But there are alot of creators where the sole purpose is to try and get as much money off a clickbait video scam as possible and I'm glad to see this come to an end.
