1500$ gaming laptop

I have 1500$ to spend on a gaming laptop that I would also like to use for college. I'm looking at the MSI GS65, Lenovo Legion Y540, and the Eluktronics MAG 15. Any suggestions?

I would figure out what GPU you want first and then work from their. I personally have a acer predictor with a gtx 1060 that i'm satisfied with

I'd get a smaller portable laptop and a desktop (if you don't have one)

 

Carrying a gaming laptop everyday will make your time on campus hell

That's not really true anymore, they weigh around 5lbs (2.3 Kilos) usually.

Eh. Even with the weight- a 15" laptop Or bigger will take so much bag space that it'll be a lot to manage. And that a lot of lecture halls are super old and the desks aren't meant for a laptop, especially of that size

Here are things to consider.

1- Do you plan on hooking the laptop to a monitor when gaming. If so, then the display is not a big deal.

2- Batteries are pretty bad on gaming laptops. Depending on how long you going in between charges that might be a big deal.

3- Make sure the cooling not an issue on whatever laptop you choose

4- Sometimes you can find gaming laptops with no SSDs. If so, then that mean you need to put one in yourself and migrate the OS to it. It also can be a pain if it is only 120 GB or even 250 GB when games are regularly 50 GB plus. That usually means that you will have to shuffle games around your hard drive and SSD. But that depends on how many games and how big of games you plan on putting on their.

5- Make sure the CPU is not going to bottle neck you GPU. You should be able to find youtube videos of the laptop you are looking at to find that out.

Well if OP goes with the laptop I linked he has plenty left over in his budget for a tablet. ?

Even with a (relatively) thin and light? I'm not looking for the Alienware 51m

Not very light but very thin.

P.S. it doesn't have the best battery life.

I strongly discourage you from buying a gaming laptop as they usually have shorter lifespans then normal laptops. You should build a desktop at your dorm/apartment/wherever college students live these days to use for gaming and whatever else you use your computers for at home, and buy a normal laptop to use for portability (i reccomend the dell xps 13)

If it's a thin and light gaming laptop, I can only assume it will be hot and it will be loud. Which probably means shorter battery life.

 

Just as a current student, I would not want a gaming laptop as my school laptop
