Hi all,

I am planning on making a virtulization server which i will RDP into  The OS the server will run is going to be a headless Hyper-V.  It will consist of a Home Theater PC and a Windows Development PC (Visual Studio, Unity etc).

So far, i know i will be using a tower case and Hyper-V OS.

I do not want it to be as loud as some of the rack mounted servers used by enterprises, but also dont want to be spending more than £700 / $950.

I am still not sure on what parts to include.

Any tips and parts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

A 2700x, 32 gigs of ram (or 16 if you think that's enough), add a decent CPU cooler in a decent case and you are good to go!

The reason why rack mounted systems are so loud is because the fans have to be small, you can't fit a 120mm fan as you would in a normal desktop.

Small fans mean smaller area to move air, to compensate for that the fan speed goes up. And fast spinning fans are also loud.

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

For your budget I think Ryzen is the way to go. RAM depends of your usage, but I would say at least 16GB.

You can install Hyper-V Server on a USB stick so you won't waste any disk space for your hypervisor. Then you could use two SSD or HDD (depends of your budget) in RAID 1.
