using pc without integrated graphics

Go to solution Solved by mariushm,

All video cards manufactured have a standard minimal functionality, which makes it possible for you to go in BIOS and change settings, or use the video card in very basic modes (no acceleration, everything super basic, limited number of colors and resolutions in some cases)

Windows has a driver that supports this very basic functionality, so if it can't find and install the actual drivers, it will install this very basic driver that works with any video card, that's what "generic vga adapter" means

hi, my dad needs a pc for autocad work. i want to ideally get a 2700x for cheap, but it doesnt have integrated graphics. i got a new 2600 and asrock b450m pro4 f couple days ago, and i was able to get 1440p just plugging displayport into my discrete gpu without installing drivers (device manager said generic vga adapter). is this generic vga adapter on the motherboard? i had this generic vga adapter with my previous mb with i5 2500k too, and i couldnt get above a very low resolution plugging displayport into the same gpu, so im pretty sure this vga adapter is on the mb? is it good enough for web browsing and CAD/other engineering software work? i really dont want to buy the 3400g or other "g" models, and amd is clearly better than intel for professional work.

Microsoft will install generic driver before you install it manually.

The 2600 and 2700x both don't have integrated graphics.

Only the one with the G behind the model number like 2200g or 3400g that have iGpu.

Ryzen 5700g @ 4.4ghz all cores | Asrock B550M Steel Legend | 3060 | 2x 16gb Micron E 2666 @ 4200mhz cl16 | 500gb WD SN750 | 12 TB HDD | Deepcool Gammax 400 w/ 2 delta 4000rpm push pull | Antec Neo Eco Zen 500w

Video cards have to work without drivers, how would you be able to access the BIOS otherwise? Before windows loads no drivers are in play.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad
