AMD based HTPC

I want to build a HTPC with an AMD 3600. I've got a good idea of what I want for ram and psu, but I have no idea what motherboard I should use or what case. I haven't picked out the graphics card yet because that will come after the case obviously. Should I be going AMD? Or would it be easier to go intel and have my pick of the litter as far as mobos? I don't really mind picking up a 2200 so I can flash the bios on an m-atx/itx board, but its been so long since I bought a case that I don't even know what form factor to target :(

 

So my questions are: What HTPC case and motherboard should I pick? What form factor should I target? Should I be going AMD? Convince me!

I tried stuffing a 3700x in an SFF pc with an H80i V2 and it was not able to cool it. This was the first week the chip came out, so I’m not sure if heat wise it’s gotten better. I returned it and swapped in a 9700k and the H80i V2 cools it amazingly with just one fan. 
 

With a 3600 you would probably be better than I was with the 3700x.

For HTPC you'll want the smallest possible build.

Form factor would be Mini-ITX, there's not alot (if any) X570 itx board out there, so your options will be limited. But there are some B350 / B450.

For case you can check out Bitfenix Prodigy ITX.

Should you go for AMD? Yes and No.

Absolutely Yes if you're doing an APU build where you don't need extra GPU, like with 2400g or 3400g. For HTPC where all you do is media consumption (plug in to a TV) and some light gaming, it is more than enough.

No if you find the small ITX motherboard lineup in AMD is very small. I think Intel mobo has the upper hand.

on AMD there are few worthwhile options, and its mostly the MSI B450i gaming AC i believe its called. the X570 itx boards. and then there are the lesser Gigabyte B450i and ASrock B450i.

I should say that this will be my VR rig, so an APU will not be enough
