Hey! New to the site and had a couple questions. I just got a new game for xbox and been loving it but the packet loss and frame drops are very frustrating! My xbox is currently connected wirelessly and this game is has too much information for a wireless connection. Im upstairs and the router is down stairs, going through the wall is outa the question. So i was curious to see if there was a way/device that i can put in my room that could connect wirelessly to our downstairs router that would allow me to use an ether net cable and make a wired connection! Thankyou for the help.

Can get an AP, or buy a set of powerline adapters (depending how old your houses electrical is)

Is AP short for something? Or is that the name i can look up? Thankyou for the reply!

Access point

Ubiquiti is the way to go if you're planning on buying one.

I just watched a quick video on AP’s and to my understanding that doesn't solve my dilemma.

i want to find a device that can wirelessly connect to my router that then can accept either net cables. Then that allows my xbox then to have a wired network.

I cant directly connect my xbox to my downstairs router. And i cant go through the walls with a long ether net cable.

Im very uneducated about networking and stuff so im sorry!

But that is not going to solve the problem. If your problem is bad wifi, you need to eliminate the wifi. Unless its just a dead spot where the Xbox is...

Powerline Adapters.

It's not exactly what you want, but they'll do much better.

What you want wouldnt be any better than it is now.

There are a few options that might help.

Option 1 is to upgrade the Router to one with better built-in WIFI, or buy a standalone Wireless AP (or cheap WIFI router and disable the routing features) and wire it up as close to your room as is practical.

Option 2 is to get a PowerLine Ethernet kit (runs over the house electrical circuits) - plug one adapter in near the router and wire an ethernet cable in, plug the other adapter into an outlet in your room and wire up the Xbox.

Bonus points: Some Powerline kits come with an Access Point module - so you can both extend WIFI and it'll often also still have a regular ethernet port, so you can still hardwire in your Xbox.

Powerline is a mixed bag though - the speed and stability largely rests on how good and how new the wiring for your house is. I use it at my apartment (Basement apartment in a relatively new, very upscale neighbourhood) and it works quite well.
