Hi, I've been having trouble with the ethernet cable on my motherboard. When I plug in the ethernet cable on the ethernete port on the motherboard, it doesnt seem to detect the cable. I have tried the ethernet cable on other devices like a laptop and it seems to work just fine. When I troubleshoot the network, it says "unplugged ethernet connection.". Is the ethernet port on my motherboard dead?

seems like it. I had a port on a laptop once where it was a little on the large side and caused my connection to drop all the time and would have to prop the cable in a way that would allow the pins to contact the cable. Do you get anything if you wiggle the cable around in the slot?

a few days ago I would get the same internet drops and would wiggle it to get the connection back, but now even the wiggling doesnt solve it. The orange light turns up at times and then starts identifying the network, but after a few moments it would show an "unidentified network" or "Unplugged network cable". I also noticed that the yellow light doesnt seem to turn on, only the orange one does. When it shows unidentified network only the orange light is up, but when it shows unplugged network cable, nothing lights up.

Ive seen in other forums where they reset the bios and it worked for them, do you think this will work in my case? or is the port just completely dead?

Well if you're getting some connectivity.. it could be worth a try. I would also try and get the latest drivers for your NIC as well.

If the troubleshooting above doesn't work, I'd just get a USB 3 Ethernet adaptor, you can also get a combination one that has like 3 USB ports + gigabit Ethernet for not much money.

I'm actually planning on buying a NIC, would there be any NICs that you can suggest?

If you can get them where you live, most people prefer an intel NIC.https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Gigabit-1000-1000Mbit-networking/dp/B001CXWWBE/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?keywords=intel+pci+nic&qid=1572691674&sr=8-1-fkmr0

Yep, should be OK I would think. I don't use pcie adaptors myself, but if I did I would go with an intel NIC... I prefer USB adaptors if I need them as I don't like using my pcie slots, as I need them for other things.
