How can I fix my iphone xs max

Cooper1

Hey!  I have a 2018 iPhone xs max.  I dropped it in a puddle, wiped it off 2 seconds later and assumed that there was no problem.  Two hours later, the phone starts glitching and progressively gets worse and worse until it wont turn on.  I put it in rice for three days and I got most functionality back.  The only thing that does not work is there is a vertical line in the display that I can not get any touch input into the display.  The display still shows, but I can not press the buttons in that part of the display.  I leave it in rice overnight for about two more days with no improvement so I decide that its something I can try to live with.  I live with it for about 5 days and now the screen is starting to glitch a little more frequently, however the phone is usable and there is still that vertical line that I can not press buttons on.

Should I change out the rice and try the rice method again?  Is there a way I can open my phone up and fix it without paying a repair guy?  Im a poor college kid that saved up his whole summer paycheck to buy this phone and the price to replace the screen would cause me to run out of money.  Looking for any ideas.

How long have you had it? iPhones come with a standard 1-year warranty (2 in some countries, in the US you can pay for AppleCare+ which is 2 or 3 IIRC), and they're IP rated for water resistance. Should be able to take it to the Apple store and they should fix it for you. If they don't I'd raise a row tbh, the phones should survive getting water on them unless you cracked the glass as well (heck I've taken pics underwater with my X, lol).

You'd have to open the phone up and soak it in more rice. Whether it's worth possibly breaking it, you can decide. Opening iPhones is not fun, especially new ones.

Ehhh the rice thing is kinda meh, sure it dries out the device but it can also cause corrosion, which kills hardware anyways. And can confirm that opening anything 6S or newer is less fun. 5-6 were ez clap, newer ones have adhesive around the edge for water/dust resistance (not too bad on the 6S, much stickier on the properly IP rated X and later). You need a heat source to soften it otherwise you'll crack your screen into ten thousand pieces trying to get it off.

Maybe not rice, but drying and cleaning it for sure (I would personally clean it with rubbing alcohol and then let it air dry overnight).

1: I bought it when it was released so probably 1 year 2 months.  (and waranty does not cover water damage)

2: Apple care + is really expensive I believe $200+

3: My phone has no cracks in it.  I contacted apple support and they told me if it was water damage it would not be covered.  I did more research and its only IP rated for the moment it comes out of the factory.

This is really turning me off from buying more apple products :(
