A QLED TV is just an LCD TV with quantum dots

Let's start with a quick summary of the two technologies.

OLED stands for "organic light emitting diode."

QLED (according to Samsung) stands for "quantum dot LED TV."

OLED is a fundamentally different technology from LCD, the major type of TV today.

QLED is a variation of LED LCD, adding a quantum dot film to the LCD "sandwich."

OLED is "emissive," meaning the pixels emit their own light.

QLED, like LCD, is, in its current form, "transmissive" and relies on an LED backlight.

The main takeaway is that QLED is closer to regular old LCD than it is to OLED, which I (and most other experts) consider a distinctly different class of television, much like plasma was before it.

Quantum dots are microscopic molecules that, when hit by light, emit their own, differently colored light. In QLED TVs, the dots are contained in a film, and the light that hits them is provided by an LED backlight. That light then travels though a few other layers inside the TV, including a liquid crystal (LCD) layer, to create the picture. The light from the LED source is transmitted through the layers to the screen's surface, which is why we say it's "transmissive."

The problem with Organic LEDs is that they are prone to burn-in.

Not sure whats the difference?

Would like to know?

QLED is Samsung marketing name for LCD TV's (also called LED, same thing) with a version of Quantum Dot technology included.

TCL LCD, is TCL (company name) ..LCDs (TV type). Which depending on their model may include some derivative of quantum dot tech, as many manufacturers use similar technologies but dont always use the same names for them.

Here is a link to see comparisons of the Samsung Q80R and TCL R6 series 2019 version. Both televisions use quantum dot technology.

A big difference is the Samsung QLED has VRR, variable refresh rate for gaming where the TCL does not.

TCL has better overall contrast ratio.

Samsung QLED has higher real scene brightness. (Done by RTINGS.com in the link above.)

Samsung QLED has better viewing angles.

Samsung QLED has much better reflection handling.

TCL has slightly wider color gamut in DCI-P3 color space.

Samsung QLED has better response time.

TCL has better input lag.

Samsung QLED supports 1080p and 1440p @ 120hz.

Samsung supports HDR10+ with metadata for scene by scene tone mapping. TCL supports Dolby Vision.

The TCL is good bang for the buck.

Samsung is better for overall picture quality.

I prefer Sony as their motion processing and natural tone mapping really do a good job and have some good prices right now and I'm sure for black friday.

Yes in the beginning.  Now at this present time that is not really a issue as most TVs go into screen saver mode when you have a static image like you paused a netflix on it or something.  Even the Logo on the screen burning in has come a long way in last couple years.  From what I know and read and heard burn in is really not something to scare you and guarantee you burn in.
