have you confirmed if you have a Dynamic IP with comcast? If it's static, nothing will change.

a brief google search gives the 2 following methods

CMD commands

netsh winsock reset

netsh winsock reset catalog

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

netsh int ip stop

netsh int ip start

--------

Press Windows+X keys and select Device Manager.

Locate the Network adapter and expand the driver icon.

Right Click on the Wireless driver and click on Uninstall.

Follow the onscreen instructions to uninstall the driver.

Locate the folder which has the latest driver that you have downloaded.

Double Click on the setup file and follow the onscreen instructions.

Restart the computer. Check if the same issue occurs while you are connected to the wireless network.

The IP is assigned to the gateway, not the client. Nothing you do on command line is going to change your IP.

The only way to realistically force an IP change on a dynamic IP account is to unplug your modem for at least 24 hours and cross your fingers. You can call and ask for them to reset you on their end, but YMWV.

This won't change your public IP address. This only changes your private IP address. For arguments sake. I use 192.168.1.X as my private IP address range and I have the IP address of 192.168.1.45, I use the command and it releases the IP and I get a new one. To get a new public IP, you would have to restart your router or modem in order to get a new public IP address.

I have Comcast myself. They assign IP's based on the device connected to your modem. If your renting equpment from them then you have a gateway, A modem and router in one box. With this config, there is no easy way to change the IP. You litterally would have to unplug your gateway and wait for the IP lease to expire. For someone like me, who has his own modem and seperate router, Id just have to use the mac address cloning feature in the router to change its mac address. Then Comcast will issue a new IP.

You might be able to call them, BUT dont hold your breath.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
