so I really lost a lot of interest to follow much about current GPUs as personally since 2014-2017 was a far more interesting time for hardware but 2018-2019 hasn't been as interesting.

but would be giving up freesync be worth going green team? I'm kinda thinking about going with a RX 5700 (I don't really think I'd need the extra performance with the XT model)
but is something like the RTX 2060 or RTX 2060 Super really worth losing freesync support? I have a very plain LG monitor that supports freesync. I only need 1080p but I feel like the RX 470 in Red Dead Redemption 2 is gonna struggle because well it's just right at the threshold for the recommended card and I do like some of the eye candy turned on. I doubt RDR2 is gonna have Raytracing lol

So maybe a 1660 or 1660Ti? Idk where those sit performance wise. I thought they were a bit worse than like the other cards I'm thinking about.

I'm really leaning towards the RX 5700 but idk what do y'all think?

does giving up freesync make sense for the slight gains that the 2060 offers? and if not what about $50 more for an RX 5700 XT do you guys think that's worthwhile?

Knowing this forum and any internet community, but having the most experience with this one. I'm not trying to inflame those "passionate" among you. I wholeheartedly disagree with the way those "passionate" peoples approach situations and legitimate questions. So I'm just stating that now, if you're gonna try and start anything or try and say stupid stuff that's borne out of your "passion" for a certain brand or product line. I'll ask you to reconsider commenting here. Thanks.

The RX 5700/XT is closer to a 2070 super, especially with a bios flash on the non XT card

I'd just go Navi, but upgrade your display to 1080p 144hz or something

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Then maybe just go all the way to a 1440p ultrawide at around $400 at some point in the near future.

also
I see the 5700 XT is a bit energy hungry. I have a 550W PSU. If I went the XT route would it be worthwhile to get a new PSU?
I presume the 5700 can handle itself on a 550W PSU?

It has the same power draw as equivilant nvidia GPUs it's not going to go over 200W in the average gaming workload.

Also what CPU do you have?

Then I'd maybe get the RX 5700/XT XT cards are pretty cheap, unless you are buying a reference blower for $289 on sale and improving it with washers.

Would then upgrade to a 4k display, used ones tend to be around $200

You can use radeon image upscaling to run at like 75% of 4k and cheat out more performance without much visual loss.

That isn't entirely true... I've been pushing past 325w with a nice overclock and slight undervolt. That 200w is for if you're doing not very graphics intensive games. 250w-275w is more typical.

That said, if you're using Ryzen with it, any decent 500w or better PSU will handle it quite well.
