Hi guys,

So at the end of the month I plan on upgrading some parts of my pc and would like some help with choosing the parts. I already have a list of parts that will serve me well for my use case and should last me another 2 years no problem. My current use case for this pc is mainly gaming, productivity such as excel and databases, light content creation I.E I make short 5 minutes 1080p clips of the games I play with my friends ( Using adobe to render my videos ) and finally I have started getting in 3d modelling and 3d short animations ( mainly in Blender and Daz 3d ).  Games I play are mostly Mobas and a few AAA games like borderlands 3, GTA V and DMC 5. The parts that I want to upgrade are listed below I’ve left out my GPU and monitor since I don’t see the need to upgrade them anytime soon as I’m getting over 144fps in my competitive games and 60fps to 90fps in those AAA games.

Parts to upgrade:

·         AMD Ryzen 5 1600

·         Crucial 16 GB Kit (8 GBx2) DDR4, 2400 MT/s, PC4-19200, CL17 (OC to 2800Mhz and CL16)

·         Corsair VS650 650W 80 PLUS

·         ASUS TUF B450M-PLUS

·         PC case – I have no idea what case this is I bought it off Ebay 6 years ago for my first build

·         2x SSDs 120Gb (they are from Crucial, got them from work)

·         2x WD Blue 1Tb HDD

·         5x Corsair 120mm fans (not PWM) controlled with DEEPCOOL FH-10 Integrated Fan Hub

The main purpose for this upgrade is to allow me to continue to do what I currently am doing but also increasing productivity times and increasing my 1% lows in games since I occasionally dip into low 30fps in AAA games and low 60s for some Mobas.

Parts I think will serve me well:

·         AMD Ryzen 5 3600

·         Noctua NH-D15 CHROMAX.BLACK (Over kill I know but I love the look and want to support the guys also may upgrade to a 8 core CPU if I get good and become serious with 3d creation)

·         Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000

·         Sabrent Rocket 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME

·         Fractal Design Define Mini C TG

·         Corsair ML120 ( 5 case fans that are PWM would like a quite system )

Any help is welcome, also for my budget it's set around £500 to £700 max willing to go over but I don't think I would need to.

Get at least a 3700, at least that's somewhat of an upgrade.

1600 vs 3600 is a very small upgrade.

Also, that ram needs to be faster, look for 3600Mhz or faster kits. The jump from 2800 to 3000 is again, too small and not worth it in your case.

Either do it properly, or don't do it at all.

Hi guys,

Ya, your upgrades are too small there

focus on the CPU first get a 3700X with Either the Gigabyte Elite or ASUS TUF if you just want a good motherboard.

You can always get a better cooler later, but the Scythe Fuma 2 at $60 or the Neptwin at $40-50 is good enough, both are still dual tower coolers.

Eventually in the far future maybe get a 3600mhz CL16 or lower kit of memory, when there's a really good sale, it's not too important.

the 660p is pretty good

absolutely do not waste your money replacing case fans, higher end motherboards will have DC fan control anyways for 3 pin fans, could just get some splitters.

Should get a coolermaster H500 case so you don't have to worry about any extra fans anyways

My RAM is rated for 2333 or w/e the base dd4 speed is I oc it 2800, it wouldn't go past this even with more voltage. Plan on doing the same with the 3000 kit and since its only £60 I thought it would be worth it but I guess not?

If your goal is purely higher 1%low fps, you don't need the newer RAM and you will not get better FPS from the ssd upgrade

That's not my only goal right now it takes awhile to render, the ssd upgrade is to get rid of those 2 random ssds i have already since they are only 120gb but yes increaasing those 1% low would be nice

What I'm getting at after reading all of your comments is just go for the R7 3700x, 3600 RAM and a new Motherboard x570 or x470 I'm guessing? Ok I can do that but what about my PSU is this any good? I checked the PSU list and I'm pretty sure its not really good

You aren't goign to stress it past 300W so it really won't matter.

X570 for sure, I wouldn't worry about the RAM until you find a good deal on a 3600mhz kit

Its worth seeing what it can do with 1,45 volts on the memmory.

If you want better results without overpaying. Look at crucial ballistics kits. They should cost much extra. Get a 3200mhz kit if that is the case as those are E-die.

X570 for sure,

Really isnt neccesary unless you really need the IO it offers. B450 Max is good enough.

It's only a $60 jump, depending on the B450 pricing, at that point I'd rather have the X570 board for the 2+ years I'll have the PC.

Is there actually any benefit if you dont need the IO?

Because as far as i can tell. For a birmal user, there isnt any.

You have PCI-e 4.0 for whatever going forward

mostly X570 should end up getting priority and the most attention for bios updates and other optimizations.

Not to mention the nicer VRM

Not useful. PCIe 3.0 is allready plenty fast for normal users.

Not really, Max boards have the same size Bioschips and are essentially B550 boards.

Not needed as the VRM on the Max boards allready supply enough power. And 7nm draws about the same power as 12nm on the top end skews

There's also an advantage in the I/O and likely the onboard audio, not that it matters too much in something like the X570 Prime

Its essentially a 60$ upgrade where you get stuff you dont actually need.

It adds up to a lot of nice to haves, for the $300 R7 3700X, $60 isn't a lot for a bunch of minor upgrades

If it were an R5 2600 or 3600  then ya the B450 boards are fine

It is when instead you could get something like 32GB of Ram rather than 16. Or storage drives among other things. And its minor upgrades that dont matter.

They are good up to and including the 3950x. Getting x570 with a 3600 is just dumb imo.
