Can't overclock CPU via BIOS

Fyi there is a newer BIOS for your board. Try that.

Updated the BIOS and it works without a problem. Very happy right now!

Hello, this is my first time posting on the forum so forgive me if I do something wrong.

Today I've purchased the B450 Aorus Elite motherboard and I can't overclock the CPU.

I'm no stranger to overclocking, but I really need your help.

Every time I try to apply even the slightest overclock, it boots and rejects the overclock before loading Windows.

I was able to get it to 3.9 in Ryzen Master but that would require me to launch it after every restart.

(side note: I also cant push the RAM any higher than stock)

My specs:

B450 Aorus Elite

R3 2200G

RX570

2x8GB Patriot 2666mHz DDR4

BIOS Version: F41 (second latest)

BIOS Date: 7/22/2019

BIOS ID: 8A16BG08

Thank you.

Probably update it all hte way to the latest, or roll it back to an earlier bios.

If Ryzen Master works then there's some issue with the bios itself it seems.

Likely isn't stable. Stress test your Ryzen Master overclock for 8+ hours using Blender and see how it holds up. If that's stable and your BIOS OC still doesn't work than you may have something else at play. Lets rule out the obvious first.

A couple of cinebench runs are probably good enough if all he's going to do is gaming.

Im talking even 3.6ghz which is inside the spec for the CPU.

It even rejects that.

Also I ran Furmark CPU burner on it for an hour and it was rock solid.

Certainly not. An unstable overclock doesn't just crash under heavy loads, it's just more susceptible to. I've had poorly done overclocks pass light stress tests, such as Cinebench, and then crash on idle.

All of this dismissing the fact that some games can be very CPU intensive, such as BF5.

They aren't AVX workloads like blender though

Not certain what you're getting at here. If you're claiming he doesn't need to thoroughly stress test his overclock you'd be wrong, regardless of the workload.

Didn’t touch it.

This may be your problem. While you're correct that 3.6ghz is within spec, it will automatically increase voltage in order to get it there. Bring your voltage up a little bit and see if it'll boot.

Whatever value I enter, it immediately defaults back to Auto.

How high do I want to go?

For testing purposes add about 0.1 volts at 3.6ghz. If it still crashes your issue likely is somewhere else.

He doesn't need to run blender for 8 hours to test a basic OC. if it passes 3 or so cinebench runs in a row it's probably fine, if it ever crashes just add a little more voltage, or drop the clock my 50mhz
