GPU and RAM too good ?

Hey, so there was this great deal going on at some store around where I live and I ended up with a 2070S and 16gbs of DDR4 RAM for an extra 20 euro. Now the problem is that my PC isn't exactly at the same level. I'm rocking an i5 8400, 16gbs of DDR4 (total now 32) and a 40 $ 1TB HDD. I'm now wondering just how bad my older and cheaper CPU and HDD will affect my gaming ; I've heard that no matter how good of a GPU, the CPU and your HDD is still important and may still slow down your PC and cause FPS drops.

Hey, don't underrate the i5 8400 that much. It's not at all old and it's a fairly capable processor. As for the hdd, you might want to add an ssd in there, but in terms of gaming performance there won't be much difference. The ssd makes your pc much snappier though

I totally agree, but you can spend some money on the cpu if you do editing or so, else ofc you will see better performance with a better cpu, but be warned, you get much more performance if you spend the money on your gpu not cpu.

i5 8400 is just fine, if you were compelled to upgrade to an i7 8700k you could do so, just looked used. Otherwise a new motherboard and CPU aren't worth the money spent.

^^^ Yep. I used to have an i5 8400, ran it with my Radeon VII for a bit (a bit better than 2070 S perf IIRC, haven't looked at benches in a bit though) and it kept up fine at 1080p, at 1440p or higher it'd have an even easier time. That tiny i5 really punches far above its weight.
