Intel and amd

Why Amd and Intel donot use same socket ? If they do we can easily switch proccesors without changing motherboard

1. Business decisions. There used to be boards that could use both, but why would AMD/Intel not lock you into their socket?

2. Technical reasons. Certain devices rely on a controller in the CPU (such as memory), so you can't just place one CPU in another socket.
