So I am about ready to upgrade from 8Gb to 16Gb of ram. I am currently sporting a set of G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4-3200 CL16 running at 2133 because my crap motherboard just refuses to give me anything else without blue screening as soon as I put in my password. I was wondering whether I should buy a whole new set of corsair ram or to simply add another set of the G.Skill one. It would save me 45$ (CAD) but I don't know how that may affect it and I am sure that I can sell my current ram for a bit of cash to cover the extra price. I would also like to state that my current ram is "up to 3200" meaning that it does not run at 3200 out of the box and I am running an AMD system so I can't use XMP. Thanks for the help.

to save money, getting the 2nd identical kit makes the most sense, but you're less likely to have any issues with a 2x8gb kit.

also, you can overclock your current kit with docp, its just amd's version of xmp

even if I could oc it with docp, in another thread I asked why my pc kept blue-screening and figured out that my motherboard's controller is crap. Just kinda wondered for when I buy myself a new motherboard.

depends on your budget i guess. imo 2x8 is better than 4x4 kit but it won't make a huge difference, especially if you're not overclocking your memory

If you set your memory to 2933Mhz does it blue screen still? The IMC is on the CPU not the motherboard.

I just RMA a 2700x with a bad IMC i couldn't even boot windows with anything higher than 2133 with insane high timings. Sounds like you might have a bad CPU there.

even when I try to get 2666 it blue screens sorry. and I don't think that my cpu is bad, 4Ghz base clock speed on all cores and all. I could be wrong thought, I seem to be very good at that too.

My CPU would run OC'd or stock speeds but wouldn't be stable anything past 2133Mhz on the memory, after running months with the memory OC to 3600Mhz just one day the IMC just fell off the deep end. AMD confirmed bad IMC. Very easy RMA process they provide prepaid shipping label to them and It was total 10 days and I had a brand new retail box in hand.

Ryzen should beable to boot 2933Mhz that is what IMC is rated for on ryzen 2nd gen anything past that is not guaranteed.

Have you ran memtest to check for errors? It will spit errors but you don't know if its IMC or RAM but your symptoms are pretty much identical to the ones i had.

How would I run a ramtest (what program should I run)? Also no clue what IMC means. SOrry about this but I an all self taught and don't know pretty much anything other than the basics and what people on the forums have taught me. Thanks

IMC = Integrated Memory Controller. It is part of the SOC on the processor that directly communicates with the RAM.

here is the link for memtest

https://hcidesign.com/memtest/

You may have to run multiple instances of it, it may cause your system to bluescreen after running for a while it did mine but it did come up with errors while i sat and watched it.

I would watch it for the first 15 mins or so then just let it run over night and see if its still going in the morning.

Sorry about the vary late reply, some stuff came up. I OC'd the ram to 2933Mhz/1.3V after running a memtest and it came up with errors, I tried upping the voltage to 1.4 and, errors. I decided to set the voltage to auto and now no errors after 10 hours of memtest. Thanks. I am still wondering if I should grab the higher quality corsair set and if it's worth it. Thanks again and sorry for the late reply.

I would say you got a bad IMC on the memory controller if your having problems like that something is defiantly wrong hardware wise. Do you have a local store around you that sells cpu's or memory kits? If so try getting another APU and drop it in for testing then just return it.

Yeah sorry, there is a retailer (Memory Express link below) but I got the kit at 2933 and stable so I'm good and sadly, I do not currently have enough money to buy another cpu/ram kit. I was asking the question in hopes that I new what kit to buy once I have money. Thanks

If you don't have the money to get parts to test, I would still do a RMA on the CPU AMD pays for shipping both ways. No point in living with defective hardware if you can help it.
