Need help purchasing a new GPU

CPU: Fx 8350 | AMD STOCK CPU COOLER | Motherboard :    NOW MSI 990FXA-GD80 | Ram: Corsair Vengence 8GB DDR3 | Graphics Card: SAPPHIRE HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB GDDR5 |  HDD: 1 TB samsung 

 

Case: CM elite 310 | Monitor: Aoc e2050S  |  PSU :  GX bronze 650 w

So that is my current config of computer.

I was playing over watch and my computer screen went light blue.

I restarted the computer got bios and windows logo showed up then i only got a black screen.

I reinstalled windows and it worked for a few minutes until windows update updated drivers and black screen again

I booted into safe mode checked device manager saw a yellow triangle on my gpu drivers.

I used DDU and was able to login into windows without safe mode.

I installed latest driver from amd website : same issue

I installed older version provided in disc with GPU : same issue

So I think my gpu has gone bad now....

 

I am looking to purchase a new gpu

I will be playing mostly overwatch and gta 5.

 

Someone I know has offered to provide me a sealed pack 1060 6 gb from MSI single fan. (without any warranty)

for 140 USD 

 

Please note I currently have no information about gpu's in the market I do know this is an old gpu but i have been told should suffice as I will be playing on 1600x900 resolution.

 

Please suggest.

A pretty decent deal for a card that should keep your FPS higher than the refresh rate of your monitor at maximum settings in those games.

1060 6GB for 140 is a good deal. But remember that your setup will bottleneck it, which can cause stutters.

I was told 1060 should not bottle neck with 8350 is it a good deal without any warranty for 140?

If you're not planning on upgrading the platform (CPU, MBO & RAM) soon, you should only consider the cards equal to GTX 1050, 1050Ti, 1650 or Radeon RX 560 to 570, eventually the GTX 1060 or RX 580 (but even those would be bottlenecked in some games on 1080p). Old to consider - GTX 960, R9 380(X), R9 290/390.

FX8350 will bottleneck GTX1060. I had FX8350(Overclocked to 5Ghz) in my old rig with RX480(AMD equivalent of GTX1060) and it was noticeably bottlenecking that GPU. Since you don't have high overclock (If any), you will experience even bigger bottleneck.

And this is why you should upgrade to at least a Ryzen 5 1600. It shouldn't cost more than $180 for that CPU and a decent motherboard, with an extra $50 for decent RAM.

I own a FX-8320E @4.3GHz,

It bottlenecked my R9 380 which is slower than a 1060,

and it obviously botllenecked my overclocked 1660 which is more powerful than both.

 

Upgrading to Ryzen is a huge difference

You were told wrong. I had an FX 8300 clocked at 4.4GHz with mx Radeon R9 380X which is roughly 30% weaker than a 1060 and I experienced bottlenecks in titles like Battlefiled 1/V and some other.

 

Before doing anything, I'd check the card in a different PC and a different card in that PC.

Getting a better GPU can cause stutters. CPU will get pinned at 100% load and you will have nice FPS drops/freezes every few seconds.

could temp solve by capping fps, till new cpu

It was so bad when i paired my old FX processor with my 1660,At Assassin's Creed Odyssey the 0.1% lows were at 7 FPS,average 34,and 22 FPS in the most demanding areas.

When i tested it with my Ryzen CPU,I got 140 FPS average,0.1% lows at 47 FPS with the same settings as with the FX.

can you then suggest me a cheap gpu which only allows me to watch movies and stuff and not gaming? so that I can at least use my pc in the meantime.

For that price get a 1650 or the upcoming rx5500 but as @PopsicleHustlersaid your cpu will probably bottleneck the card

The 1060 can handle non-gaming quite well in any PC... It's just going to cause stutters if it's using 100% of the CPU. (movies and almost anything else shouldn't do that with that CPU)

Buy the 1060 but limit the FPS in games,you don't want the FPS to be below that limit.

Experiencing a CPU to GPU bottleneck is not such a bad thing that you'd have to stop playing games; you'd be able to game as good as with the 7870 you had, if not even better in most games.
