ASUS X470 Pro Compatible with Ryzen 3700X?

Go to solution Solved by boey,

Some X470s were manufactured before the release of Ryzen 3000 and do not have an updated bios. Some were manufactured after and have an updated BIOS. If you're buying in person, you can check if the box says Ryzen 3000 compatible or something. Some MSI motherboards have a function where you can install a new BIOS onto the motherboard without a CPU in it(it's called BIOS Flashback), so that's always an option

Hi! I’m completely new to this whole PC building scene, and I have a question in regards to X470 chipsets compatibility with Ryzen 3000 series CPU‘s

I all thinking of purchasing an ASUS prime X470 Pro motherboard to go with a Ryzen 3700X CPU. I have read on some forums that Ryzen 3000 CPUs are not compatible with X470 motherboards, and you need a previous gen CPU to be able to update the BIOS on the motherboard. However then on some YouTube videos people are running the said configuration perfectly fine. I also checked ASUS‘s website and it says it is compatible. All in all I’m pretty confused right now so any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

It's compatible with Ryzen 3000 series if you have the updated BIOS ;) You can try asking for the shop to update the BIOS for you, they usually ask for a nominal fee, depending on where you buy from. It'd save you the hassle and troubleshooting if something doesn't work right out of the box.

Another option is to loan an older Ryzen/Athlon CPU, from a friend or from AMD, but that would take more time of course.

RM650x | Fractal Design R4 | NVMe 970 EVO Plus 512GB | SATA 850 EVO 512GB

Just get an X570 prime

otherwise you need an MSI B450 board with USB bios flashing.

You need a CPU to update the bios on most X470 boards

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

1. MSI max series exists for half the price

2. amd gives out 200ge's for it

3. most motherboards come with the bios installed by now

i see 0 reason for a 200 dollar motherboard here
