So, I have an i7-4790 CPU and RTX 2070 GPU.

I realize that my PC is bottlenecked so I am wondering is it worth it to upgrade to an i7-9700k and will i need a new motherboard to go with it?

How much of a performance boost will the processor give me?

You're better off getting a 3600 on a B450 or B550 (upcoming) board - will be far cheaper than a 9700K + cooler + Board

Can’t say how much performance you’ll gain. Run some kind of game benchmark. Maybe one more cpu intensive and see how it it compared.

Got rid of my 4790k a little while ago, holding back a mid tier 1080 too much.

Way better in every way.
