Hey guys,

A month or so ago I was planning on making a Ryzen 9 3900x build but decided to wait for the 3950X. After AMD pushed back the launch date and availability of the 3900x still sparse in my country I couldn't pospone any longer and decided to go the x399 route.  The workstation is mainly for 3D rendering with 3DS Max and Vray and BIM/CAD workloads. I managed to get a good deal on a TR 2970wx . In order to maintain my budget I couldn't get a mid-high tier motherboard. After some time I may upgrade to a second GPU.

My current plan is this:

MB: Gigabyte x399 Aorus Pro

CPU: Threadripper 2970wx (already owned)

GPU: Quadro P4000 (already owned)

RAM: 64GB 3200 Mh/z DDR4

SSD: Samsung Evo 970 Plus

PSU: SEASONIC SSR-1000FX GOLD

Cooler: Noctua's NH-U14S TR4-SP3

Case: Fractal design Meshify C

I was hoping on getting some feedback about if the system is ok in terms of planning.I am currently not planning on any overclocking but I am still a bit worried about the cooling as I know TRs run hot.

My general questions are:

1. Do you think the Noctua's NH-U14S TR4-SP3 is a good pick for this processor? ( I was considering AIO but after I saw Linus video (

2. How can I be sure if the clearance between the CPU soket and RAM will allow the Noctua to not overlap the first RAM slots? They look really close to me judging by pictures.

Any and all comments and sugestions will be greatly appreciated !

Why not just buy a better motherboard now and get 32GB of RAM instead? You can always add more RAM later too.

Try and find a Thermalright Silver Arrow TR4, or maybe go for one of the coolermaster TR4 coolers, the noctua one just kind of has a bigger cold plate and wasn't exactly made for threadripper.

I would either do a custom water cooling loop, or get an enermax generation 2 TR4 cooler, it should have the issue be resolved. 360 AIO minimum for the 24/32 core.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Thank you. I have never done a custom water cooling loop but I don't think that I will have the budget for it. I can't find an Enermax generation 2 TR4 cooler here.  After a bit of consideration I think I will switch up the build like this:

MB: AsRock x399 Taichi

CPU: Threadripper 2970wx (already owned)

GPU: Quadro P4000 (already owned)

RAM: 64GB Kingston HyperX 2666 Mh/z DDR4

SSD: Samsung Evo 970 Plus

PSU: Corsair RM850

Cooler: Noctua's NH-U14S TR4-SP3 + 2nd FAN

Case: Fractal design Meshify C

The case comes with a fan in the front and one at the back. I can add a fan or two to the front of the case to help airflow.
