Amd ditching fm2 socket?

Go to solution Solved by N7_Zer0,

No point in upgrading from Trinity to Richland, almost no difference. I would save your money and grab an FM2+ motherboard. It's backward compatible with FM2 APUs so you can still use your chip with it. Then get a Kaveri when you feel like it.

Also, no such thing as an A12. Their next flagship APU will probably be called A10-8850K.

I am currently on Amd A10 5800k, fm2 socket.

i was wondering if Amd will continue fm2 socket or discontinue it as the new kaveri apu's have fm2+ socket.

If it will discontinue it, I will  buy a Richand right away, and if it will continue the fm2,  i can wait for the next gen apu ( i.e. A-12 or something)

as Richland does not have a major improvement aver my a10-5800k

When they released the socket and dumped FM1 (after a short time), they said that FM2 will last longer than it's predecessor.

Howeveer, I wish that AMD would go ahead and release new sockets on a similar timescale to Intel. It makes much more sense, especially business-wise.

Compatible with Windows 95

AMDs customers are generally budget minded, having to buy a new motherboard every upgrade cycle might deter them. (I know the Phenom IIs being compatible with AM2(+) boards with DDR2 made a lot of people happy).

Then again, you have 220w TDP parts on the AM3+ socket, which just can't take it.

I think AMD mate it pretty clear that they weren't mainstream CPUs and just released them because they could ;)

Kind of makes it worse, they shouldn't have released a product that wasn't good for people to use.

It grabbed a few headlines (5GHZ OMG) away from Haswell.

So guyzz,,  should i wait for A12 series or Buy Richlad...

please someone give me a final verdict!!

Don't upgrade from a A10 5800k to a Richland. You might get 10% more performance but that doesn't warrant the money spent.

If anything get a reasonably priced air cooler and OC a little?
