Hello,

me and my friend have just moved into a house for university and each have a computer in our rooms

the first floor has our internet hub

my room is on the second floor

my friends room is on the third floor

as we both needed Ethernet for our computers we have ran a single cable to my room which goes into a splitter (Linked bellow),

from that splitter one cable goes to my pc and one cable goes to my friends room where it is put into an identical splitter and one goes into a ps4

and the other into his computer.

The problem seems to be coming from the splitter in my room,

if both output cables are plugged in neither of us have internet

if i unplug the cable that runs to his room my internet works fine

if i unplug the cable that runs to my pc his internet works fine

so i am wondering if we are doing anything wrong

any help would be appreciated

thanks

There is almost no reason to use a splitter like that in this day and age... it is like a hub and those need to get phased out too. They create collision which are something we have long moved past with cheap switches.
