Ryzen 5 3600 system highly unstable when using SSD OS but okay with HDD OS.

Hi everyone!

So, I recently bought a Ryzen 5 3600+B450 Tomahawk combo, and it didn't sit well with the Windows 10 on my SSD. The system kept hitching every 5-or-so seconds and the Internet connection was unusable. I switched over to my HDD and it worked fine with the Windows 10 installed in it. 

Anyway, I did a fresh OS install in the SSD yesterday in hopes of finally getting rid of the problem (changing from an Intel platform to an AMD one, I expected that using the same old OS would be a problem), but things got much worse. Now the system perma freezes after 5ish minutes of use and I have to restart the PC, and sometimes it even BSODs, although that has only happened a couple of times. In addition, when monitoring temps and frequencies, I noticed that only 2 cores of my 6-core CPU keep the heavy load of the system. That doesn't happen in the HDD OS.

I don't really know what the problem is. The OS is unstable in the SSD, but stable in the HDD. I've already fresh-installed Win 10 on my SSD 3 times, and nothing's changed. On the other hand, my SSD used to work fine with my previous i5-6600k, so I'm kind of ruling out a defective disk. 

 

I'm thinking this is a BIOS problem. The shop sent me my B450 Tomahawk already updated to accommodate 3rd gen Ryzen, which is all good. But I'm starting to think it's buggy because the colour pattern of the mobo's RGB LEDs is also messed up (mixing up red with other colours when I set a solid colour).

 

Do you guys recommend a BIOS update, or is it too delicate a thing and something to be avoided? Do you think something else is the matter?

well the tomahawk has a usb bios flash, i'd say give it a go and if it doesn't work just try again

So the BIOS flash just resets the current BIOS version? If it doesn't work, won't it brick my mobo? That's my biggest concern.

I'd double check the status of the SSD. I find failing disks can lead to odd behaviour in Windows. Or maybe it is some bad driver you're installing on the new installs that wasn't present on the HD install?
