I was planning a build for someone, I was wondering if there is anything anyone thinks should be different about this build.  Any advice appreciated.  Thanks!

Heavy Video Editing, processing, and heavy gaming.  (open world, ultra settings, maybe 4k)

I was looking for opinions on things more like, is there a better version of a part?  Like a different power supply, cooler, etc.  Sorry really wasn't too specific.

I think the system will be pretty fantastic for that with the one exception that if you're gonna be utilizing all that CPU power Im guessing you might want to go with 32GB of RAM over 16GB. Id say 16GB minimum for a gaming PC, and this is clearly a bit more than that. Only getting 16GB of RAM is like skipping leg day.

 

I also think on that platform you will have a lot of fantastic cheap upgrade options in the near future, allowing you to add significant power for cheap.

No reason not to get a 1KW PSU. 750W is probably fine, but like... This system is already overkill as hell, and you can find very nice 1KW units for basically what you're spending for the 750w. Other than that, maybe a larger HDD?

and not to say waiting isnt a good option, you can always sell your current processor when you upgrade and buy 3rd gen and recoup a large cost of the upgrade.

Has much more cache, which makes a big difference with HDD use (and it also happens to be cheaper to boot).

Thats not a very good website in my opinion (and many others). I'd watch that video to get a good real world comparison. In synthetic multi-threaded workloads the 2950x is 50%+ faster though (just raw compute performance not really reflective of say gaming or video editing). And my point before of it having very good upgrade options in the near future that would be a drop-in upgrade.

Alright, after looking at multiple videos, It seems that the threadripper does do better in "raw performance" like you said, but in games it seems the i9 does better.  To me it doesn't seem right to spend more money on a threadripper that get 10 less fps in games.  That being said, when the new gen of TR comes out this year it might change all the pricing and stuff.  Thanks for the info.
