9700k or 9900k or 3700x

lavacandy

3700x, x570 elite, stock cooler. the 9900k is only fully necessary at 1080p or with a 2080ti, otherwise, the 3700x is just a better deal.

I Suggest The Ryzen 7 3700x And A Decent X570 Motherboard, In Personal Opinion, The Ryzen 7 3700x Is Better Than The 9700k  And Comes With An Adiquite Cooler And Is Much More Better Suited And Not To Mention Better Value Than The 9900k In Your Personal Usecase.

I hope that I was able to help 🙂

it's just cheaper overall, you'll see absolutely no performance gains with the 9900k at 1440p with ddr3600 ram, then there's also meltdown and zombieload issues with 9900k, never know when the bug fixes slow you down.

for the 3700x, watch this

Also the 9900KF is 400usd

if you plan to use ddr3000 ram, then get the 9900kf for 400usd (if it's still on sale)

Actually even with the DDR3000 I would still go with the 3700x. The reason for this is you can set the ratio for infinity fabric so that the 3000 will not slow down the interconnect. I am sure if you look online you can easily find what ratio to use and see very similar performance as the 3600 memory.

in the future yes, for now it's the same for the most part, there will be games where 8 cores/8 thread isn't enough

the most stressful game on that list is odyssey, you can see how the 9900k is better for that game only, doesn't really matter for other games.

thats up for you to decide, i know multiple people who's decided that 8c/8t isn't enough for new builds, so their choice is basically narrowed down to the 3700x vs 9900k, if it was a completely fresh build, i'd go with the 3700x with the fastest ram i can find. The meltdown/zombieload problems also factored into the decision.

You've already asked several times.

You don't need the 9900k. Period. The 3700X won't net you much more performance over a 3600X, and is a waste of money if you're just gaming.

I would not buy Intel at all right now because they got in a fight with amd because amd is now on the same level for cheaper so they might release something else and drop the price for the i9 (I think). If you want to wait a little bit. It's up to you but if they do release something else the i9 will drop at least $50-$100 just depends on the timing

3700X for the best value, it's only a few % behind the 9900K for a lot less money.

9700K for the cheapest, it's still a hella solid gaming CPU.

9900K if you don't want Ryzen and just want the best CPU out there for gaming.

None of these will bottleneck you at 1440p, neither would a 3600X or a 9600K.

I was recent in the same boat, and ended up going with a 9700K for a couple reasons.

Benchmarks:  The 9700K was generally neck in neck with the 9900K and was a good $180 cheaper.  And when overclocked, easily beat any Ryzen CPU.  So right now, it is the best bang for buck for gaming IMO.

Future Upgrades:  The Ryzen platform should be upgradable to the 4th gen Ryzen CPU's without a mobo purchase while anyone on the Intel platform will need a mobo upgrade as well.  Since I frequently upgrade, that didn't matter to me.

Future Proof:  Yes the 9700K is an 8c8t CPU while the others are 8c16t CPU's and everyone seems to think that a 8c16t CPU is the go forward path.  Personally, I think it will be a while before games make full use of all 16 threads on a regular basis where an 8c8t CPU will lag behind 8c16t CPU's.  Once again, since I frequently upgrade, this didn't matter to me.

I spent the extra money on a good AIO, a EVGA 280mm CLC.  I have yet to install the CPU & cooler on my existing Z370 mobo, but once I do and OC to around 5.0Ghz, I feel my CPU will be one of the fastest gaming CPU's on the market currently.
