Hey guys and girls!

I'm looking for a recommendation for a home router (preferably one that's available somewhere in Australia). It needs to be able to work simultaneously as a VPN client and server. I'd like it to be able to route all network traffic through a VPN, bar certain kinds of traffic, like games; though, I don't even know if that's possible. If not, at minimum, I'd want it to be able to route traffic through a VPN on the basis of IP address. I'd also prefer it to just be a router with maybe some switch functionality, though it's not a necessity. Preferably no modem and no AP though.

I'm thinking something from Ubiquiti, either their EdgeRouter or Security Gateway but I'm looking to diversify that pool. Maybe something running OpenWRT?

Thanks in advance!

for any good router with those features, get something that is officially supported with DDWRT/openWRT

good routers like that usually cost about $250 in the USA. not sure about AUS market.

So you think go down the DDWRT/OpenWRT route over something like Ubiquiti's software?

As for the price, if it does what I want, then I'm not really concerned with what it costs me.

i am not sure about ubiquiti software. I know DDWRT is good but I have never seen nor experienced their software before.

DDWRT

I have. It’s not for the faint of heart. I had to get lots of help just to configure IPv6 as Comcast dual stacks. Though it has lots of options when it comes to configuring it.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I have played around with OpenWRT and I quite liked it. I would like something a little more user friendly, like Gi.Net's implementation. That said, I'm not opposed to installing my own GUI and putting in the time to set everything up myself. I would just need some hardware that works well with the firmware, because the router I installed it on did not play nicely with it.
