2080 super long lasting

Planning a new PC build and I'm looking to get a 2080 super (terrible name). I would like the graphics card to last a while (3-4 years) before needing to upgrade and I'm wandering how long the 2080 super would give me high frame rates on high graphics in 1440p?

It'll be your best bet, especially price to performance compared to the 2080ti Super.  You should be able to get no less than 3yrs out of it.  You may have to lower settings in time, but that's w/all graphics cards.  Only a 2080ti Super will be a guarantee for longer, since it's obviously the top.  It isn't released yet, but it's comin.

I didn’t think that confirmed. In fact, I believe it was proven to be completely unrelated to desktop gaming

I've seen reports of the patent, but there's no way to confirm or deny

Yeah, the 2080ti cost quite a bit more than the 2080 super. And using the 2080 super on 1080p seems wasteful. This is the first time I'll be gaming at 1440p so I wasn't sure how long the card would last

It should last you that long, however none of us have a crystal ball, and we can't see into the future.

It's a strong card. One of the strongest on the market. That's how you should look at it.

Even if it's patented, it doesn't mean it'll be made.

Alright. I'm just thinking of how long it'll be before I have to start toning down settings from high to medium. I've always played on 1080p and never worried about it, but I'm upgrading to 1440p and wandering how long performance would last. Thanks

Why do you think it'd be any different than 1080p? It's not like higher settings degrade more over time.

I look at 2019 game benches on cards that I bought in 2015 & 2016.

 

In August 2016 I bought a GTX 1080(3 years old). It is still good for 1440p 60hz gaming on a 6 core + CPU. 

In July 2015 I bought a GTX 980 ti(4 years old). It can do 1440p but for demanding titles like ACO it is a 1080p card. 

 

My first GTX 1080 ti is 2 years old and it is still good for 4k 60hz.

 

The RTX 2080 is 2 months short of being a year old so I think you will only get about 3 years out of it if you pear it with an 8 + core CPU.

Thanks. Was honestly thinking of getting a 2080ti but that's a lot more money, so I was wandering how the 2080 would last

the 2080 super will do for the most part for 1440p/144hz on medium, there are outliers like mhw and division 2, in terms of how long it'd last i'd say 3-4 years.

Hm, I'm a bit of a graphics snub. When I play single player games, I crank up the settings to get great graphics at a steady 60fps. When I play MP, I try to keep the frames at around 120 - 144. Would a 2080ti be better then?
