This is an SFX power supply, a smaller format than normal-size ATX power supplies. It wasn't made for your case.

You can stick to RM550x you have.

Hi thanks for taking the time to read this but I have decided to build my first ever PC. After a good 12 years away from gaming I have made the first steps towards my own gaming rig.

I am stuck on what power supply to buy. After watching linus videos and more I decided to email power colour for their recommendation which they emailed me back and said 850w.. Is this right here is my build.

3700x AMD cpu

X570 TUF Gaming WiFI motherboard

16gb corsair 3600mhz RAM

Samsung nvo 1gb ssd

4 rgb corsair fans

1 wraith prism cpu cooler

Now the gpu I wanted either the power colour 6700xt red devil or the tuf gaming 6700xt...

I have ordered a power supply Corsair RMx Series RM550x 80 PLUS Gold Fully Modular ATX PSU and thought that would be enough but now I am confused below is the email from power colour.

  Hi,

We recommended PSU wattage of 5700XT  is 850 watts or more. We recommend EVGA Supernova 850 watts PSU. Have a nice day!

     Regards,

     RMA Tech Support

     Powercolor

thanks again for anyone who helps sorry

mike

thats a poor recommendations, and there are like multiple supernova PSUs. some of them arent even that good.

you are essentially looking for a good 550w PSU. something along the lines of a tx550m, formula gold 550, MWE gold 550, pure power 11 cm 600w or if you are looking for somthign cheaper. the cx550 is a good option.

as long as you don't get a logisys or something, you got little to worry about, especially with a good unit like this

Just went on pc part picker and it says this...

Compatibility Notes

  • Note:The Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) ATX AM4 Motherboard has an additional 4-pin ATX power connector but the Corsair RMx 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply does not. This connector is used to supply additional 12V current to the motherboard. While the system will likely still run without it, higher current demands such as extreme overclocking or large video card current draws may require it.

Can you advise please? Cheers

Irrelevant.

In no scenario can you overload the 8-pin connector.

The extra 4 pin or 8 pin would only be relevant if you had the 3900x or 3950x and a extreme overclocking setup with LN2.

Edit: for reference, the 64 core Epyc CPU runs on a single 8-pin. And Mobo-Moses (aka buildzoid) rants about how unneccasary the extra 4-pin and extra 8-pin is.

Brill I did try to search the web before bothering you. Someone had same question but no answer.

I could swap to the https://www.ebuyer.com/874512-corsair-sf750-750w-80-plus-platinum-high-performance-sfx-power-supply-cp-9020186-uk instead but if I dont need to that's great.

So should I just stick to the one I have or pay more? Thanks for your help I owe you a beer ??
