And how do they do that in such a way as to not penalize regular videos? Lots of videos have foreign language comments. Lots of videos have sexual comments (even videos with no sexual content, or even no kids at all).

 

To simply say "Google should improve their algorithm" is a cop-out answer. Be specific - how specifically could they improve the algorithm that doesn't make things worse for everyone?

I agree there are probably videos that fit that category but then you have to ask why is there a kids video people are sexually commenting about. It should at least trigger a red flag for human review then. In terms of fixing the algorithm I'm sure whatever they are doing is insanely hard to study due to the nature of machine learning. So I guess in short it'll probably remain a problem until tech catches up

I agree that there's definitely room for improvement.

 

But on the flip side, literally any time they change the algorithm, for literally any reason, someone loses their shit over it, and causes a big uproar. It's a lose-lose scenario for YouTube. They act aggressively, and people accuse them of making too many unnecessary changes. They back down, and people accuse them of not acting enough.

 

I trust that they are at least aware of the problems and are attempting to slowly tune the algorithms for that.

 

In the mean time, people can help by reporting any video like that at all. And reporting any sexual/gross comments on an otherwise innocent video of kids.
