PLEASE NOTE: I didn't know where to post this, before posting here I was looking to see if there was a PSU section I could post this question in, however there appears not to be one....unless I'm blind :D. LTT Staff, if there is a better and more suitable place for this, please move it. I generally do try to post in the correct sections.

Ahh, okay. Sorry about that. Onto the question.

If you take a look at my PC Build below you'll see that I currently have a 650W PSU selected that would be more than enough to power my components as well as accommodate a CPU overclock. But, I was wondering, do you think that I could get away with a 550W PSU. The Extreme PSU Calculator shows that even with a overclock of 4.4GHz with a OC core voltage of 1.25, the estimate power draw is about 472W. But what do you guys think, could I be fine with a 550W PSU or should I just stick with the current PSU that I've got selected (probably know the answer to this)?

I always like to have some overclocking headroom, you can get away with a 550W PSU with no issue though.

There is a section for PSUs, it's called Cases and Power Supplies.

Okay, well good to know, I may end up switching to the 550W PSU or sticking with the 650W, we'll see.

Oh! Dang it. Didn't see that. Thanks for pointing that out :).

Yes you could definitely get away with it. Although i've noticed that higher wattage sometimes means higher quality.

Oh! I didn't that. How come?

A decent 550 will handle it no prob. Including OC. Just don't get some Diablotek or other related BS

Nah! Wouldn't dare do that! :D It'd be the 550W version of the Seasonic 650W PSU I have currently selected.

Well it depends on what type of model your looking at. For example the RM series it does not matter much since they all use the same components just slightly different as the wattages go up. Although if it is a higher wattage it usually means higher cost. Most high wattage PSU's (Over 900) have platinum efficiency and higher quality parts. Since a higher current requires higher quality parts to make sure they can take the load.

Oh! Okay. So are Seasonic generally fine?

Yep. They make their own PSUs. Rosewill Capstone's are also pretty awesome

There's no Roswell anything in Australia the last time I looked. I think they must just exist in the US and CA.

I have heard lot of good things about Seasonic, I had initially gone with Silverstone but switched to Seasonic because they seem to be the better bang for the buck. :D

Yeah. You can't them in the AU. You could get the unit that the Rosewill Capstone is based off of. The Super Flower Golden Green 600w: http://www.itestate.com.au/pages/product/pdt_product_detail.faces?BeanName=productDetailAction&pcode=16156

Ehhh. For Seasonic I honestly wouldn't say better bang for the buck, but really one of the really good outright quality PSUs you can buy. Especially for the generally <700W range where it's quite hard to see through all the BS and actually get a well-built PSU.

Hmm...okay. They seemed like the best BFTB to me. What would you say is the best BFTB PSU?

Depends on where you're located, and what's available where you are. For example me where I am, probably those Rosewill Capstones (newegg), or if I'm shopping at a store, the EVGA 500B/600B (Memory Express).

Okay, well. The brand of PSUs available here in Australia (or at least at PC Case Gear where I'm planning on getting my parts) are as follows:

• Aerocool

• Antec

• CFI

• CoolerMaster

• Corsair

• Cougar

• FSP

• Seasonic

• Silverstone

• Thermaltake

So out of those companies, do you happen to know which ones offer the best BFTB?

After checking out their site I'd have to say CX750 is the best BFTB. If you don't need that much power then you can trade off some watts for better quality. If you're going that way then the G550 is probably the best PSU for the price.

Corsair CX750 V3

Antec High Current Gamer 520W/620W

Silverstone Strider Gold 550W

Seasonic G550

Those are probably what you'd want to be looking at as far as I know. Aerocool isn't available where I am but I hear they have some decent PSUs. Generally stay away from CM and Cougar until you get to their really high end ones.
