MOBOs are confusing

Go to solution Solved by HanZie82,

Just want to plug and play get a Bseries, want overclocking or have them axtra features and such go for X model. Want to be future proof(ish) get the X570.

So basically I have no idea what mobo to get. I want one for a 3700x and I was thinking a b450 tomahawk but then there are so many more expensive options and I don't want to cheap out.

I want decent oc on them so I can get the most performance. M.2 isn't important for me ATM because they're expensive.

I will use my pc for video editing and modeling.

Why do people buy x470 and x570 mobos? Is there something I'm missing?

Thanks in advance

They have more features that people might need. For instance x570 has PCIe 4.0 which people use for storage

Edit: x470 and x570 mobos might also have better VRMs. idk much about them though. Refer to the Motherboard tier list for that

I heard from a video that pcie 4.0 isn't worth if for a couple of years because nothing is close to using it entirely. Are they worth going for and why would that be?

When i ask for more specs, don't expect me to know the answer!

Nah not really, no GPU works with that yet. And storage doesnt need those speeds in normal home/small office use. Not for a decade. Server systems on the other hand...

If you have it available, why ignore the future generation? PCIe 4.0 is twice as fast and will be mainstream just as PCIe 3.0 replaced 2.0. This discussion comes up every few years and every time people rave about nobody needing it onlu for it to become the defacto standard in 2 years time. Get PCIe 4.0 If you want it. You certainly aren't losing anything

Nearly no one here uses their pc for other than gaming or productivity lol, the 4.0 nvme speeds might be useful sometimes

The Tomahawk MAX is a good motherboard for its price. If you want a more expensive option, for 200 there are the x570 options such as the asus tuf, the asrock steel legend or the gigabyte aorus elite. For the in between (pricewise) you should be looking for x470 motherboards that support the bios update without the cpu, i can't suggest the models since i'm not really informed about x470 motherboards (maybe msi and asrock boards are good?), just look for the reviews online before buying if you want to go this route
