New to overclocking

I have an Alienware R5 laptop with an Intel core i7-8750H 2.20 GHz and a GTX 1070. Looking to overclock but not entirely sure what safe temps and voltages in afterburner would be and would rather not wreck my laptop.

Best not to overclock a laptop, but if you want to squeeze like 1 or 2 fps, then you can very slightly overclock it.

Go for it. 8750H has a Tjunctin of 100c and GTX 1070 is 94C - PC will shutdown if you hit these temperatures. Unless you disable that feature..

Better to undervolt your system, look up a tutorial on how to do so.

8700K @ 5.2ghz 1.29V, 4x8 Rev.E @ 4040 13-20-20-39 1.7V.

Yeah, and those temperatures aren't recommended.

Is this a Alienware feature? Generally the CPU will just thermal throttle. Not turn the entire machine off.

Your right at thermal junction, but with higher temps (130c) or so it will shutdown. You can set this on most boards, not sure you can set this on Alienware. But ofc you want to have a lower temperature than tjunction...

You cant overclock the 8750H, which is quite often limited by the power limit in the first place. Undervolt the CPU as much as long as it's stable instead.

 

As for GPU, crank it till it gets unstable or above 84C
