Modding my Alienware m17 r2 2019

I_am_so_Internet

I just recently bought an m17 r2, and saw a photo of the internals, and realized there is a ton of wasted space. (see attachment)

If they built it better, they could have fit a 2.5 inch hard drive bay in there, but since they don't, I can only max out at 4gb with 2 M.2 SSDs.

I was thinking, I could add an internal 2TB USB drive for downloads, backup and music storage, and also a SD card reader.

What other things could I fit inside?

What do you guys think?

So I found a build guide on how to make a low profile USB connector. I figure I could use this and connect it to a multi-slot USB card reader, and have a couple of card slots, maybe one for semi-permanent storage, and one to use as a normal card reader.

Just need to drill a hole in the side to stick the card reader out of.

  • 3 weeks later...

I've made some detailed photos and measurements of the inside of the case. There is plenty of room. How could I attach more than 1 usb device inside though?

And should I have a microsd card or SD card + reader or just a usb drive inside?
