GTX 1660 or RX 570?

ItsHarox

Hey guys, I'm ordering some new pc parts to upgrade (more like replace) my pc,

my current pc specs are here:

i3 2120

16gb 1333mhz

Generic Dell Optiplex 790 Motherboard

GT 1030 (the gddr5 version)

Here is what I'm upgrading to:

Ryzen 5 1600

16gb 3000mhz

ASRock b450m pro4

GT 1030

Obviously, I should be getting a new graphics card for this system, and I've been trying to decide to spend more on something like a gtx 1660 or spend less for an Rx 570...what are your guy's thoughts? Are there better options?

1.Why not go for a Ryzen 5 2600? Price difference is only about $20 if buying them both new.

2.If your going to be gaming at 1080p a 570 is not a bad choice but with amazon prim right now you can get the 580 for only $20 more. Depending on the game at 1080p you may need to turn the settings down a little but it should be an overall great experience.

What res are planning on playing at? What games? Do you want maximum fidelity?

GTX 1660 is a around 10-15% faster overall.

Be sure to @Pickles von Brine if you want me to see your reply!

How about a used RX580 8gb,1070,Vega 56

I'd recommend 1070 if OP doesn't mind going used, it's quite power efficient so cooler quality shouldn't matter too much compared to the Vega cards. I've got a 2GHz 1070 on a blower cooler that doesn't go above 80C

Nice isn't even at 85C. I'm waiting for your upgrade man, with that Lian li 0-11 are you planning on custom watercooling or just air?

Planning on leaving GPU as air cooled and getting an AIO for the CPU. Don't think I'm ready for the hassle of custom loops(yet). I dunno about specs but it'll depend on how much time I'm willing to spend saving up

Just remember to overclock your memory/tighten timings, you can follow this tutorial which basically gives you a shortcut to tightening timings and whatnot. You won't get the absolute best clocks/timings but it's pretty close. The video is for Ryzen 3000 but should be applicable to Ryzen 1000 and 2000 as well. Just select Ryzen 1 gen/Ryzen + gen in the Ryzen DRAM Calculator.(1 gen is Ryzen 1000 and + gen is Ryzen 2000)

I got a used 1070 myself and was very happy with the results.
