Hello forum,

I just played with the minde game. Would it be possible to by an ALIENWARE AREA 51M or a CLEVO P775M with top of the line specs.

Lets say i9 9900k, 64GB of ram, raid memory...   but with a RTX 2060. Then start to dismantle the laptop until you can remove the mxm graphics- card.

Now replacing it with a quadro rtx 5000 mxm module you would in theory have in comparison to a rtx 2080 module 128 more cuda cores and 8GB more v-ram.

I want to hear your oppinion about feasibility and if makeable how would you do or would you try if you had the money?

No because the Alienware 51M does not use a standard MXM gpu. Does a Quadro RTX 5000 MXM card even exist?

Desktop: i9 11900k, 32GB DDR4, 4060 Ti 8GB 🙂

That's a P5000, not an RTX 5000. I just googled it and saw that as well.

why no dark mode?

Depends on if you can even order a laptop with an RTX MXM card, There are apparently some coming from Eurocomm but currently there isn't RTX series MXM cards in the wild, you will have to wait and see if they do eventually appear. (Alienware uses custom boards, NOT MXM in the Area 51M)

If money was no object, then sure, I would get an MXM module and see if I can use it on said laptop, assuming the laptop actually uses a standard MXM module and not some custom job that looks similar. I'm 70% certain Alienware doesn't use standard MXM.

Otherwise, upgrading laptops with MXM modules I would argue is hit and miss. Unless you have a top-end version of the laptop, you may run into cooling and power issues. And ultimately, not worth it because of how expensive MXM modules are.
