So I recently bought a 3700x, and so far I've really enjoyed it. However a few days ago I finally got around to overclocking it and I realized that it appears to be only running 4 cores and 8 threads instead of 8/16. It's been a while since I've ran AMD, so I've tried to go through the bios and find any setting, and I've tried to read online, I can't seem to find anything. I have no idea if this has always been like this, or it just happened when I overclocked it but it's just been bizarre. Any input is appreciated.

How many threads does task manager report?

You can check it by going to the performance tab in task manager.

You can also check it with cinebench, hwmonitor and there are many more ways to check.

Going to try a fresh install of windows, see if that helps. I've done a few upgrades on this computer and maybe some legacy setting or remnant is confusing it.

The question here is whether the Bios reads the cores correctly. If not, rma the cpu and board.

Problem fixed. Re-installed Windows. My speculation is that because I upgraded from a 6700k which is a 4 core processor, there must have been some residual driver that was causing issues with the system. My rule of thumb has always been a fresh install every time I update but I got lazy this time. Problem fixed now. Thank you everyone for your input.

Next time, run msconfig, click on the Advanced options... button and then clear the Number of processors box.  Reboot and problem solved.  Windows will automatically read the number of cores / threads from your new CPU and set things accordingly.
