It will not do anything for you. I hope nvidia counters by do something similar for people like us :( Perhaps in BF5 ;)

I have read that AMD said that they were not going to keep it exclusive so maybe Nvidia could just make it work for Nvidia cards, But that will probably never happen.

I think you either need a Kaveri APU or an r9 (or last gen equivalent) gpu

I highly doubt it. Whats more likely is AMD will licence it out to Nvidia (if they are clever about it)

I can't personally see the sense in licensing mantle out to NVidia. Why wouldn't AMD want to keep it exclusive? I'm sure it would increase sales. IDK if it would even work with NVidia hardware?

From what I understand about mantle, the only reason it works for amd hardware is because it's essentially centered around their architecture, I'm sure making a new version of it centered around nvidia's architecture would net the same results.  Because they're essentially coding directly for a certain set of parts.  

 

It'd be a HUGE waste of resources not to sell it out and license it, they could make MILLIONS of dollars selling it, and probably MUCH more money then they'd make holding it to themselves.  This is something that could drastically change the way we make/see games, them keeping it to themselves wouldn't benefit very many things besides themselves, whilst they can sell it and make much more+ benefit the entire community.

It won't put them out of business though, nvidia holds a bit bigger market share I believe (i'm not 100% sure how much) , this would merely swing the tables from 60/40 to 40/60 if worse comes to worse (theoretically speaking).  Selling it/licensing it out would be a much better business decision IMO.  Plus, it may not even be that successful, isn't it a completely different API than direct x?  So game creators would have to essentially make the game twice? That may turn a lot of people away from coding in mantle

Maybe devs will start writing games only in mantle, skipping directX and openGL altogether? who knows? I think XBone and PS4 have mantle (or similar) too so it could save devs time on writing console ports.

I don't think they will unless Nvidia adopts it, which I doubt b/c of their pride. They would rather swallow a bag of bullets before switching to mantle. Which would lead to my next point. NV, like it or not, still owns majority of the gpu market. So in turn devs would not isolate majority of their consumer base. I hope I am wrong though.

 you guys are nuts. Do you seriously think nvidia would use mantle? They dont care, dont care at all. And EVEN if mantle succeeds (it would need to be a industry standard), nvidia has the money and the resources to make their own API. 

 

Either amd gently let intel and nvidia use mantle, or we are going to have 5 API's with intel and nvidia making their own,  for their own hardware.

So I have an AMD CPU (FX-8350) and an Nvidia GPU (GTX 760), Will mantle have any affect on me? Or is it only for AMD CPUs. sorry if this sounds dumb but I really have not followed AMD stuff at all.

I have a 8350+660 and the only thing that change for me wsa tht my CPU usage went down %20 , no FPS boost tho
