Problems with 34 bits programs and 64 bits pc

Go to solution Solved by mariushm,

A 64bit processor can run 64 bit or 32 bit applications. 32 bit applications will be slightly smaller (disk space) and will use a bit less memory compared to 64bit applications (let's say in general 70-90% of the same application's 64bit version) but the downside is such 32 applications can only use up to 2-3 GB of memory (in the case of Chrome, each tab is considered a separate application, which can use up to 2-3 GB of ram).

As your whole computer has only 2 GB of memory, there's really no downside to various applications being 32bit only, especially if those applications don't need the benefits of 64 bit. For example the Steam launcher/interface doesn't need to use gigabytes of memory, it only needs to show you lists of games and browse the steam shop.

A small and useful 64bit application is Irfanview, a freeware image viewer : https://www.irfanview.com/

You can download either 32bit or 64bit version ...

Another useful app. is Media Player Classic Home Cinema : https://mpc-hc.org/downloads/

Same story, you can download either 32bit or 64bit version

If possible, make an effort and install a second stick of memory, or two sticks of higher capacity.

You probably need DDR3L (low voltage DDR3) running at 1333 Mhz or higher, SO-DIMM

Memory is pretty cheap and will improve the performance of your laptop significantly .. ex 13$ for another 2 GB: https://www.newegg.com/kingston-2gb-204-pin-ddr3-so-dimm/p/N82E16820239853

or 18$ for 4GB : https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-4gb-204-pin-ddr3-so-dimm/p/N82E16820231697?Item=N82E16820231697

I have and asus laptop with these specs:

2 GB RAM.

Integrated graphics card.

Intel celeron CPU N2840.

64 Bits OS.

Today when i opened the task manager i noticed that all my programs were 32 bits(google chrome, steam, java, dicord)etc i think the problem here is that my laptop has 2 gb of ram.

Help Deeply Apreciated

Nothing wrong with that, not all apps are 64bits.

If you go to control panel --> System and Security --> System   (if you have a full sized keyboard you can click "windows + pause/break  keys"

What does it say?

Example:

;image.png.b9654379ef8bac36de5180f39ca83917.png

it says 64-bit operating system x64-based processor same as the example you've shown me.

Then all is good.

As @mariushm said, with 2GB of ram, 32bit programs use less ram.

But try to upgrade to atleast 4gb if you can, idk how you can even use win 10 on 2gb.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

Oh ok can you give me at least a 64 bits program to check if its really this case.

You won't see any difference either way. I've only few times hit 32bit software's RAM usage limits at work. Here's example:

thisiswhy.png.cd065e39fae7619ef5eccf15ad03255b.png

I've lost the file with RAM usage stuck at 3.5Gb... Opening really large CAD filed there.

For me Programs in task manager show either (34bits) (64bits)

That image was example of situation where I really needed to have 64bit software. You don't have enough RAM, or CPU cores, to take advantage of 64bit software. RAM usage limit for 32bit is 3.5Gb. I have hit that at work (I had screen shot of that before software crashed, but seems like I've lost it).
