3200mhz cl16 ram vs 3600mhz cl18 for ryzen 5 3600

Well the titles say it all. They are both just as fast but i have heard that the sweetspot for the 3000 series is 3600mhz, is it worth it to buy the 3600mhz rather than the 3200mhz? Because they are just as fast as each other. What does the 3600mhz benefit the ryzen 5 3600? It would have been better if i got 3600mhz cl16 but that is out of my budget.

Thanks as always for your help! :)

How much more expensive is the 3600mhz compared to 3200? If it is just a few bucks more then go with that.

But i went with with 3200mhz 16cl because it is good enough.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

I live in Norway, the 3200mhz cl16 cost 1000kr while the 3600mhz cl18 cost about 1200kr. so its a 24 dollar difference.

This is a hard question, there are plenty of videos out there comparing ram speeds that i've watched but i've never seen someone use a cl18 kit for 3600, that honestly seems slow. Honestly if we are talking about games 3200 vs 3600 can go back and forth but thats usually when they have cl14(3200) and cl16(3600). In your use case I'd ask if 3200 cl14 kits are cheaper then 3600 cl16 or if both are out of question. I own 3200 cl14 Flare memory and I dont regret it at all, 3200 cl14 would be better then 3600 cl18. Referring to rgb ;) trust me you look at your monitor more then your case so it wont be a big deal if you dont get rgb.

both 3200 cl14 and 3600 cl 16 are way over budget, at least here in Norway. The only reasonable kits are the 3200 cl 16 which is 1000kr and 3600 cl18 with rgb(rgb is cheaper than the non rgb version) which cost 1150kr. If you use the formula both kits are the same speed. (1/(frequency/2)) * cl, as seen on gamer nexus video.

so if were only comparing 3200 cl16 and 3600cl18 I would go with 3600 for sure. Maybe you can tighten the times yourself. But thats probably a better bet for you

The things is that the ryzen 3000 series likes higher frequency. Youtubers say that 3600mhz is the sweetspot for the ryzen 3000 series.

I am a little confliced

Yes thats a rule of thumb but other factors like Cas latency plays into it to, like I said im sure a 3200 cl14 kit would outperform a 3600 cl18 kit. But if your case its so negligible between your choices I would just do 3600. in real world scenarios we are a 1-9 fps difference in games and work loads, seconds of difference. So dont sweat it

Go for the faster ram if it doesn't compromise the budget and consequently, the other system components. If the extra bit of money can go anywhere else, I'd focus on that first.

If it's hurting the budget, just go for the cheaper one.

The corsair lpx 3200 cl16 nor the corsair 3600mhz cl18 is hurting the budget. I think I misunderstood, i thought you said to buy either a 3200mhz cl 14 or a 3600mhz cl 16. The speed on the 3200mhz cl 16 and 3600mhz cl18 are the same, but was thinking that ryzen 3000 series would benefit higher frequency.

I think you know alot more than me, therefore i was wondering if i should choose the 3600 or the 3200

It's not a crucial difference and you shouldn't prioritize it over any other upgrade. If you can get the faster ram and there isn't any better place to put the money towards, it's not a bad idea.

3600 CL18 is actually faster than 3200 CL16. 3200 CL14 would be on par/faster than 3600 CL18

I overclocked my 3200 CL16 memory to 3600 CL18. The latency is identical on both setups, but you get more bandwidth and a 200 MHz increase to Infinity Fabric clocks (1600->1800).

The performance increase is not much but it's still there. However, running the same memory at 3200 CL15 or 3466 CL17 would be faster still, at least on paper, but I can't get my kit to run stable at those timings.

The CPU's "Infinity Fabric" clock is tied to memory speed. Thus if your base memory clock is higher, the CPU runs faster.

Memory latency is the same on 3600 CL18 and 3200 CL16 despite the looser timings on the 3600 MHz memory, because the higher clock compensates for them. 200 MHz = 1 CL.
