gtx 980 with a 500w duable?

squallypo

hello people, i recently had my rx 570 passing away (press F ) ;_; still sad about it......

so a relative of mine is giving me his gtx 980 in the meantime, what im wondering is if my evga 500w 80+ white plus is enough for that?

i wont be OCing, nor playing at 1080p other than 1366x768 due to my monitor capability.

and if somehow you guys say no, would a evga 600B be okay at least?

other choices are: riotoro onyx 650w, zalman zm600-le 600w 80+  white, Silver Stone 550W ET550-B 80+ bronze.

i5 4590.

The RX 570 typically uses ~150w under a gaming load.

The GTX 980 (From what I've seen, I have one) uses about 180w under load. At 75% power it stays at about 140w. You'll be fine with a 500/600w. Just make sure you get a quality unit and don't really cheap out on it.

Specs v-v

Cpu: Ryzen 9 3900x @ 1.1v / Motherboard: Asus Prime X570-P / Ram: 32GB 3000Mhz 16-16-16-36 Team Vulcan (4x8GB) / Storage: 1x 1TB Lite-on EP2, 2x 128GB PM851 SSD, 3x 1TB WD Blues / Gpu: GTX Titan X (Pascal) / Case: Corsair 400c Carbide / Psu: Corsair RMi 750w / OS: Windows 10

yeah as i said i dont plan on OCing the card, much less doing 1080p cause my monitor doesnt allow it so 1366x768 its what i go for or even 720p, idk if that helps with the less consuming power on my case?

so that being said, is it okay to keep my current psu ? or get a 600w ? the options are riotoro onyx 650w, zalman zm600-le 600w 80+  white, Silver Stone 550W ET550-B 80+ bronze.

You probably wont have high enough GPU usage and wont hit that normal power limit of 180w, at 50% gpu usage, you'd probably be at ~100-120w.
Yeah, the EVGA 500 80+ thingie is likely better than the Riotoro, but I haven't looked into it before. It's nameless and scares me. The Silverstone would be better but not enough of an upgrade, and the Zalman is really just a sidegrade. check out LTT's PSU tier list if you want help looking for a power supply.
