Bricked Motherboard?

I have a brand new B450 board that has seen better days. After installing the Bios update (USB Flash) for the Ryzen 3000 series I plugged everything in and turned on the PC. The board works for a split second then dies even without the CPU plugged in. I tested the power supply which works fine when it’s not plugged into the board. What  happened and how would you proceed?

Sounds like textbook short with a solder point on the mobo touching metal.

 

You likely have a standoff in the case touching the back of the mobo.  I would take everything out and do a breadboard (google breadboarding a PC)

Meaning the CPU has been removed several times but I don’t see any bent pins.

what board is it? Tomahawk? Even if the bios is not compatible with the CPU, the computer will come on and stay on but you will not post. You should see the lights and hear the fans

 

The fact that it just dies tells me that there is something else going on

take mobo and cpu out. put them in the motherboard box, use pins to boot, see if it still happens as said above its called bread boxing and its really a good thing for troubleshooting. I usually just boot with cpu cooler and mobo then add a stick of ram and keep adding parts until i find the problem. if no problems there... its the mounting to case

The computer powered on before the bios update. All I did was reinstall the CPU and Heatsink/reconnected the ATX power cable.
