Hey LLT gang!

I've been rocking my 2700X paired with a 1GTX080 for a good year or so now, i came from a i7 6700K prior to this upgrade;

I know it's pretty much a huge leap in terms of architecture from Gen2 to Gen3 - i'd like to get peoples thoughts on moving over to the 3950X along with a X570 motherboard (when available). I do a lot of gaming, content creation with Adobe CC suite and Davinici Resolve (normally just 1080p cut downs of my streams)  - compared to my 5930K 2nd build i have, i can't help but think the Gen2 seems slightly less responsive/reliable. Would moving over to the next gen be cost effective, do you think? My 5930K build is just an encoder machine, it just sits there and pushing out the streams, having played with some Adobe CC on it, it seems a lot more stable than the Ryzen build currently.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! :)

Hey mate! I'd say the upgrade would be worth it in your case considering the productivity workloads your computer undergoes, as well as the extra small but incremental boosts you'd experience in games. Much like Schwellmo92 mentioned, definitely invest some research into the motherboard you currently have now and whether or not it may be compatible with second Ryzen (3000 series).

CPU: AMD RYZEN 5 1600X (CLOCKED @ 3.9GHZ) | GPU: GIGABYTE GTX 980 G1 GAMING | RAM: 2x8GB CRUCIAL DDR4 2133 (CLOCKED @ 2933MHZ)
MOTHERBOARD: MSI B350-PC MATE | STORAGE
2 x SEAGATE BARRACUDA 3TB (7200RPM) + RANDOM 5.4K RPM LAPTOP DRIVE (lol)

CASE: NZXT S340 (BLACK + RED) | Cooler: Corsair H110I (280MM RAD, STOCK FANS)

Looking at buying a new GPU for this bad boy =)

Upgrading to a 3900X would already be a big step, as mentionned i would either choose between the 3900X and the 3950X if your motherboard can handle the second CPU.

Main System: Ryzen 2700, Asus Crosshair VII Hero, EVGA GTX 1080ti SC, 970 EVO Plus NVMe, Crucial Ballistix 3200mhz CL14, CM H500, CM ML240L cpu cooler.

Second System: Ryzen 2400G, Gigabyte B450 DS3H, RX 580 Nitro+, Kingston A400 SSD, Team T-Force 3200mhz CL15

If it ain't overclocked it ain't good...

Adobe Suite has and will always favor Intel, it's a sad reality to all those who always want to paint Ryzen as the ultimate "workstation" solution.

This happens due to technologies like QuickSync doing wonders on hardware acceleration, the fact After Effects, Photoshop and similar are all EXTREMELY single threaded depended and the way it's coded it also takes advantage from Intel's hyper-low latency Ring Bus in comparison to Infinity Fabric (that's likely where you feel that snappier touch to it).

Intel and Adobe also works far closer together to achieve better stability and AMD just gets the result of their works.

So as much as Ryzen is an amazing CPU for multiple purposes if you need an Adobe Suite specific build, Intel is still the best solution, that's why my brother and I's workstation rocking the 9900K still.
